This is what the rebadged Alfa's coming in to be Dodge Hornets are going to look like. This is supposed to be the replacement for the Caliber. It's looks like a sedan and 5-door models will be available.

I honestly don't think it looks that bad.

I was expecting some kind of cross of this:

With this:

Your pic is better than what I was imagining.

A neon with a rod knock and a peeling paint job is more attractive than a caliber

I was worried how this would turn out, esp. since the Giulietta it is based on is so pretty. Not bad so far, but let's see the SRT-4 hatchback!

This is the answer.

The one picture I see makes it look somewhat like a current model Jetta but with the front re-styled ever so slightly to try to include a "cross-hair" grille.

It wouldn't take much doing to style a vehicle that looks better than a Caliber. Tho I'm beginning to wonder if the Caliber's "problem" was that it looks sort of like a mini SUV but isn't marketed as one. I mean, Dodge should have strongly considered offering AWD as an option...or did they, and I missed that version?

Based on the Guiletta. It's a nice car.

I'm totally ignorant of Alfa's current models. What's the difference between the Giulietta and the Mito?

Hard to imagine it could be worse than the Caliber...

I'm pretty sure the AWD Calpass (Caliber/Compass) came mated to the soul draining CVT tranny only.

I hated having those things coming in for rear drum shoe replacement. It was a given, no matter what you put on there they'd come back squeeking after a time. They had no effective way to get rid of brake dust.

Thankfully they're departing with a awesome sounding replacement. It might even have me considering Dodges again.

In reply to neckromacr:

I was looking at Patriots at one time (they are the same vehicle as the Compass/Caliber) and not only were they good looking, they were available with a 5-speed and "4WD". There was an optional "rock crawling" gear in the transfer case and that was only available with the CVT.

Those boring Calibers can knock down 40mpg at 75mph. I'll put up with a lot for that.

The "Hornet" looks like someone photocopied a Focus.

How about adding a grille and spare tire cover from a '65 Imperial and calling it a Green Hornet.

Why couldn't they have just left it as the Alfa?

Really? I had a Caliber rental a couple of years ago... drove from RDX NC to Florence, SC at night (no traffic) and didn't get anywhere near 40 mpg... not even close... not even 30 mpg... and I wasn't driving much above the speed limit given it was dark and the car had crappy lights.
