Just to be clear. Are guns (somewhat popular topic here for some reason) considered politics, or maybe just talk of the regulation of guns?

E.g. "Which handgun to buy" will almost have to have some talk of regulation in it (not necessarily for or against of course).

Here's a quick primer: Nobody cares about whether you believe people should, or should not, own guns. Or how you would interpret the Constitution. Or whether you think organized religion is a crock.

Seriously, nobody cares. Like, your mom doesn't even want to hear what you have to say about "major" issues. She's just looking for whether you will, or will not, be having dinner with her anytime soon.

Key parties. Birthday cakes. Drone porn. All kinds of other oddities.

I learn some weird E36 M3 on GRM, that I might have been better off not knowing.

Quite a party 'yall throw.

I treat the forum like I treat FB, I'm here for cars and dogs, anything beyond that is usually noise.

I suck at parties but I'll bring lots of booze.

I like this kind of party. We just had a three day event at our shop, and that's what it was like: a bunch of cool car guys talking about cars and fun stuff. Most of us learned something - and none of us learned anything about anyone else's politics.

I'm just hoping that my pending avatar doesn't get banned. Even if it's not approved, I hope that whichever admin. sees it gets a laugh.

I sure hope there's some onion dip left.

I really appreciate your comments Margie. As a mod and one of the few female posters on the forums I feel like I walk a very fine line between removing what is obviously not appropriate, and not removing/locking topics that while controversial, do spark some interesting conversations. I can't view every hot topic every day to see if it has gone downhill with no brakes though, just not enough time. It seemed for a time that members would self-moderate, gently letting others know it was time to dial it back a notch. I think that happens less now and that may be due in part to these members not visiting as often or at all.

I learn more interesting things reading this forum than I do any other, and I really like that. I was up til 3am one night contemplating the electrics of a car I have never even driven just because it was interesting. I have spent many nights contemplating hanger steak and I am determined to try that very soon.

Mostly I just wany to say, thank you for hosting this party, and for keeping it real

So, I need to know. Are 'Amy' type threads go or no go?

I feel it's been talked around or hinted at but w/ no formal address to that specific topic I really don't know.

In reply to fasted58:

<- clearly you know my feeling on the situation

You'd be the most interesting man at the party, others just need to not hate, or know to step away if they're going to. On the flip side, if others try to tell you how to life your life in a non-constructive manner, they must be ignored or thick skin is required. I'm of the opinion that the initial post wasn't an issue, and you were reaching out to us for advice and guidance about a rather unusual situation. Responses got a bit too preachy opposed to simply stating what they would or wouldn't recommend.

That being said, it's not my say at all whether they are a "go or "no go" user discretion advised.

The Amys embodied everything that is either right or wrong with America. A compelling story of a man pressing ahead using questionable judgement with little regard for consequences or morals. You missed a fantastic though sadly short lived tale of a man's close friendship with gas station attendants, their lovers, children, and possibly grandchildren.

Some of the most thoughtful, nuanced political discussions I've read on the Web were right here at GRM Off-Topic. (No, I'm not kidding.) I'll miss that.

Sounds like this is still going to be the best place to find out how to change plugs on a 2-valve 4.6 Ford motor, or what to watch out for when shopping for an old XJ-S, or what's the most effective way to spend $500 on my Miata.

I will miss it, too. Unfortunately, a few blowhards have ruined that for everybody. Best-case scenario is that they cannot respect the rules and get themselves banned; then the rest of us can go back to intelligent conversation.
