I've saw another story almost identical to that, but in the UK maybe a year or two ago. The cat would make evening rounds by itself, then go into the room of the next to die.

One of our cats was dieing. The other one totally freaked out, hissed, wouldn't go near her.

funny how animals can tell.. they can even tell when it is their own time. Only humans are so blind

There was an episode of House that involved this same phenomenon.

(apparently it has something to do with humans becoming warmer as they approach death)

Hmmmm, I have two of the critters and since the thermostat is kept low, they like to keep real close when the lights go out. If it's my time to go, I probably won't get any clues from them.

Hey, at least they'll have food!

That's what I tell my wife makes cats such good friends... How many of your friends would eat you after you die?

Eh, if I'm unlucky enough to end my life in one of those places, without my mate or my child to hold my hand, I'd like to scratch a cat behind the ears a little bit for a minute.

I'm still not falling for the supernatural nonsense about it, tho. Like mad_machine implied, there's probably a perfectly rational reason some animals can figure that kind of stuff out.

They say animals can also detect earth quakes, storms and when your going to throw them out side at 3 AM for meowing [ with anger] .

Gosh, if you saw it on House, it must be true. Humm. People get warmer when they approach death. Dang, why didn't I think of looking at that, with all the death I've been around? And there I thought they got colder. I gotta watch more TV. You people of the Religion of Science really need to broaden your outlook some.

I had a dog, Bruzer, that could tell when a cold front was coming. He'd freak out, start running in circles (big circles), chew on the door knob, etc. It was the only thing he was afraid of, literally (~3/4ths Rhodesian Ridgeback). He was better than the TV weatherman. TV: Nice weather today, no changes... Bruzer: COLD FRONT COMING!!!! Sure enough, cold front would come through in a couple hours. He died the night a spring snow storm came in.

I used to have a dog who could tell when there were squirrels outside.

GEEZ Doc, settle a little. I never did claim it was fact, but it does make sense that people would get warmer. Ever heard of someone running a fever slightly before they die?

Woody, there's a squirrel in my attic. The cat hovers around the attic door. Do you think the squirrel is about to die?

If the cat gets into the attic, damn right it will.

My cat is a total baby and currently lame. So, I would say squirrel FTW.

Since this is happening right in my backyard, it's been mentioned in the local news in the past.

I'd be screwed if this were my cat--she's in my lap as I type this and is generally pretty clingy. She'd be a prolific Angel of Death.

The other one is a typical aloof queen, FWIW.

They can smell the changes in your body. They have dogs that can smell cancer and are trained to find it, a cat could probably do the same.

The difference is a dog won't eat you after you die. Cats suck.

Oh bull... my cat turns his nose up at table scraps, he'd rather starve than nibble on my rotting carcass.

Quoted because it was so funny the first time....

Thanks guys.... My cat just jumped on my lap, and as I was petting him I said "You're a good bob costas." ....and no, that's not the board filter, that's what I actually said.

+1 to that.

And I'm starting to think it says that on every Robert A. Heinlein book. I know it says it on Starship Trooper.
