Wheelies! Is that 7.2v higher voltage than stock? Might explain why you're blowing stuff up :)

Technically the stock battery is 7.4v, while my NiMH battery is 7.2v. Barely a difference, but I swear the NiMH battery gives the car more "punch". Which makes no sense. From a stop on pavement the little beast would pull the front wheels and carry them a good few feet. It launches like an old GM X-frame car, all gnarly and twisted. Like this:

The super floppy suspension makes it dance over the rough yard, but it also makes it REALLY touchy on high grip surfaces. Some folks are running 3S LiPOs on these cars, which just sounds insane.

I forgot to report another issue. The "return to center" plastic tab on the controller steering wheel broke. A new controller is $25, but for just $20 more dollars I can get a whole other R/C car that INCLUDES the controller I need. It just makes economic sense, right?

Yes and no.

For kids I think the JJRC Q39 is a safer bet: https://www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_663336.html

The plastic driveline on the 12428 is just not up to abuse from a kid when coupled with the 540 motor. My personal 12428 is running great, but I also drive it drive it carefully. I have had $75 worth of fun with my own 12428, so it is still worth it to me. The newer version supposedly has metal diff gears from the factory though.

Thank you, I will order this.

I don't know anything about remote controlled cars. Except that most that they get as gifts stop working after a while

appreciate your help

Just keep in mind that these are closer to hobby grade cars than toys. It is like buying a running project car, stuff will be wonky and you just have to fiddle with it. I've been mucking about with R/C cars for better than 30 years. Don't' be afraid to bust out the tools.

Oh man, I have a WPL variant on my list of silly things to buy. Just look at the FJ variant!

Sure it will take two months to get to you, but for $56 it is a RTR crawler that looks awesome!

How are you guys paying for stuff from Banggood?  I only placed one order from there and had fraudulent charges on my credit card within a couple days, and from a google search it's very common for that to happen.

If anyone wants to gamble a credit card on one of these, I'd gladly pay you to do it for me, too. I have literally one card and I want one of these, but I do not trust banggood, obviously- and I don't really feel like changing my entire everything over to buy a Chinese rc car.

Curse you Gearbest and WPL!!

Do I need this? No. Do I want this? YES YES YES holy crap Yes:

https://www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_1841778.html

Yup, six wheel drive. And it is $45 in RTR format right now. Or if I want to go kit based (needs electronics) and WWI level old school, it can be had for $35:

https://www.gearbest.com/r-c-cars/pp_009847372400.html

But wait, there's more! What if you just want a RTR double axle truck WITH TANK TREADS!!! Yeah, that's $46 right now.

These are all based on the WPL chassis which actually gets decent reviews. It has upgrades as well, including a 2-speed transmission! The 6x6 may be a birthday present to myself, especially for that cheap.

I can see that this is now Yet Another GRM Tread I Need To Avoid

The B-24 Variant really trips my trigger, and if I wasn't a careful man, I would end up down a Rabbit Hole with a fleet of "cheap" $50 4wd mini RC trucks in various stages of disassembly, modification, and breakage, just like my full size obsessions.

The only thing that stopped my the last time I got addicted to RC cars 30+ years ago was the fact that I only had one friend who had a car that would run with my Tamiya Boomerang.  I'm not even sure where that car is anymore.

If you are worried about your credit card info, you can also buy WPL R/C stuff on Amazon. Just search "WPL RC" and it turns up a ton of stuff. Prices aren't as cheap as BangGood, but the billing is less sketchy.

Help me out here. Is this-

the same as the wpl truck on banggood? I'm not super well versed on chinesium rc trucks, and I'm not sure if they'll knock themselves off.

Just make sure you know which models have fully proportional steering, and which do not, so you know what to expect.

In reply to Mndsm :

It looks right, and it using the right marketing photos. The Amazon prices on the Kei truck is kind of high right now though I think because it just came out. There are several remarketers on Amazon it seems that sell the same exact trucks, but with different names. They still use the WPL item numbers in the descriptions though.
