My box went out yesterday. This was the first time I'd participated or even paid attention, and it was fun. After I mailed the box out, I realized I left two items that I meant to send onwards out of the box. I think I'll do better next year.

I hope I still have my receipt, I think mine was 24 lbs?    It wasn't intentionally ballasted, but I DID clear out some shelf space!

How much does a magic spinning Dorrito weigh?  I've never had one in my hands yet.

I'm at work, not at my bench, but from memory a single S4 rotor (1986-1988) weighed right around 10 lbs dry with no seals on it.   The rotor housings were somewhere in the 8lb range, I think?

Edit:  I did find the post from my 2016 victim, where I sent him the entire rotor housing & rotor assembly with stationary gear.  Apparently it was over 35Lb according to the box sticker.

If Indy hasn't got you covered, I can probably scrape together another box or twelve.

7 lbs, 5 ounces of joy is en route to some lucky recipient's mail hole as of noon today.

The USPS counter man didn't even mind that I addressed it to "GRM Sucker".  Or all my cackling.  Or the fact that the box rattled if you looked at it wrong.

My package went out on the 31st. I don't know exact weight since forgot to ask while it was on the scale, however clerk said she was surprised by the weight. No serious ballast added so it won't be close to heaviest.  Hope it didn't get held up too bad by the holiday. I left the tracking slip at work or I would check it's status.

my package left in the capable hands of the USPS yesterday afternoon

I had to hold back a laugh when the guy at the counter asked if there was any liquids or breakable stuff in the box.

There is now a corrugate parcel on its way to the Pacific Northwest filled to the brim with the finest junk my garage could provide.  Its delivery has been trusted to the people in the purple jumpsuits.

Mine is on its way East for a Thursday delivery.  The counter person seemed unamused by the "supposed to rattle" note on the box and looked and me sideways when I started snickering.

Also, answering the "anything fragile, liquid, perishable, or hazardous?" question with "humorous, but not hazardous" is apparently not very funny.

Mine was supposed to arrive on Monday, will have to dig out the tracking receipt and make sure it made it there.

Mine was supposed to land on friday. Last  year the box I sent out pretty much disintegrated en-route and was a bit late. This year I packed it slightly lighter and used much more tape, but the box was reused... Time to recheck tracking I guess, if I can find the receipt still.

It arrived intact!  I'll post the contents a little later on tonight.  Been prioritizing race prep on my motorcycle above all else.

Haven't seen the contents of my box posted yet, either.

Looking in the picture thread, I see some people sent booze. I was going to send some liquid cheer, but then I worried about what would've happened if the recipient was under age 21, on the wagon or otherwise uninterested in getting it.

Maybe we should indicate if we are open to gifts of booze, much like we do international shipping? I'm not sure if Hungary Bill wants to track that sort of thing, though.

Am I overthinking this?

I considered it myself. Not really knowing my target, I erred on the side of safety. I would say don't unless you know, unless theres a neat story with the booze itself.

...when he asked me if I wanted more insurance. I was reasonably certain the most valuable thing in that box was the tape.
