Never heard of it. Still don't know what it is since no one in this thread explained it.
Two seconds it takes to double click on a word, right click on it, and select "search google for 'juneteenth.'" On the phone, press and hold to highlight word, then press "define." Takes less time than posting "I don't know what this is."
Or I can keep on living in ignorance about it as I've made it this far in life. I really don't care what it is. But I guess you could have explained it in probably less words than it took you to type out your diatribe. I thought this place was better than that.
If you didn't care, why post? "I thought this place was better than that." - cute. Applies here, too.
Edit: You know, I'm sorry for my tone. I don't mean to agitate you. I just find the "I'm too cool to know this and too lazy to help myself to the knowledge" posts pretty annoying, and I should just ignore them. Sometimes I don't and I let my irritation get the better of me. Sorry about that. I won't ever understand people posting things like that, they seem to belittle what's being discussed without actually having any constructive information or content, but I shoudln't let them bother me. And maybe that wasn't your intent.
In that case, I will link here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth
and post the summary from Wikipedia: "Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved blacks throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States. Its name is a portmanteau of "June" and "nineteenth", the date of its celebration.[1][2] Juneteenth is recognized as a state holiday or special day of observance in forty-five states.[3]"
Generally, Juneteenth is seen as a celebration of the ending of slavery, which means the elimination of the ability of one class of human to own another class of human. To me that's probably one of the most important holidays we could celebrate here in the US. It's hard to treat it as a curiosity or something to be flippant about.
The other thing about Junteenth is that it was very much an unofficial black Texan holiday. It happened because communities said "this is important to us". For a lot of black Texans this is their holiday, nobody gave it to them and told them it was ok to celebrate.

I had no idea about these functions. Thanks! I had been doing it the 'old fashioned' way, by opening up a new tab to Google it.
In reply to dculberson :
The title and the first post was ambiguous and the posts I had read prior to my first reply only mentioned how they heard about it or that they haven't heard about it. No mention whatsoever of what "it" actually was and zero context that I could even begin to piece it together. In all honesty I was thinking it was in reference to an obscure book, TV show or movie I hadn't seen. I wasn't even convinced it was a real thing, kinda like when an older sibling tricks you into going snipe hunting out in the woods at night. The only intent of my post was hoping to be gentle nudge for someone to provide an explanation as I know I wasn't the only one that didn't know what it was.
You are reading a whole berkeleying lot into what I said. I've very rarely seen anyone in all my time here tell someone to search instead of providing either an explanation or a link to help someone out. That's not typically how people here react, even topics that have been beaten to death. I find that reaction way more belittling and patronizing than the entirely made up in your mind atrocity that I apparently committed.
In reply to Nick Comstock :
I really am sorry; I think maybe we caught each other on a bad day. Have a better one.
This the only car forum I've ever seen a thread about this day. I'm low-key proud of GRM

Y'all know what I am talkin' 'bout
Actually, I did not know. Learned from rustybugkiller & Mr. Wallens posts about this holiday. So Happy Juneteenth!
My story about Junteenth as a white dude from the midwest is really about me learning about people. I had no idea what it was. So I asked. And I found out not only what it was, but that it was VERY important to some of the people that I was living around at the time. Having come from a very homogenous part of the country where we all had the same traditions, it was a bit of a wakeup. We all know the "we're all the same no matter the color of our skin", but this taught me that I didn't really understand what that phrase meant. We can all be the same and still be very different as far as out upbringing and what's important to us. Learning about what's important to your friends and why has become part of me getting to know people ever since. I don't really know you until I know what's important to you and why and that started for me personally when a neighbor explained Junteenth and what it meant to him and other black Texans.
Happy Juneteenth!
I heard about it in Canada for the first time today. I presumed it was new, as Juneteenth sounds awfully modern.
I remember when we here took pride in the fact that this is not the kind of group that says " use the search function newb".
I could say more, but I'm just going to go shop for Jeep parts.

While I understand what you're saying, I still think that this forum is light years ahead of the rest of the web in terms of reasonable discussion. In fact, I think this thread my actually prove that. We had some disagreement because, hey, it's hard to judge tone and intent from a typed message, but we also made an effort to sort it out. I can't think of another forum I've ever seen a written apology on.
