Got the Miata back yesterday from the dealer. Made sure I went and drove it a lot. Put over 100 miles on it. No issues. Today as I'm driving the CEL comes back on and it starts idling rough again, and the feel of slight hesitation during acceleration. Went straight to Autozone, pulled the code, P0300. According to them common problems are Lean A/F Ratio, weak ignition system, or a vacuum leak affecting one cylinder. Halp!

That's a 1999, right? They're known for having coil problems. What was done at the dealer?

P0300 is a random misfire code - that's your hesitation and rough idle. Mazda sez:

crankshaft position sensor
camshaft position sensor
Ignition coil (ding ding ding! - most common cause, it seems)
plug wire
MAF sensor contamination
Excess air suction between MAF and dynamic chamber (ie, leak in the plumbing pre-TB, I think)
Fuel pressure problem (regulator, clogged line, fuel pump, etc)
purge control solenoid valve (ie, charcoal canister I think)
PCV malfunction
EGR malfunction
Vacuum hoses damaged
Various wiring problems

  1. Dealer changed the oil, and replaced the O2 Sensors and Cat Converter.

Get a coil, stick it on and see if it fixes the issue. If it does, get the dealer to cough up for it?
