Burritos picture is right on. Mine is 36", and I'm about 5'11 with shoes on. It's a good height for most things. Detailed stuff (like dovetails in wood working) I find myself kneeling or crouching which isn't fun long term. For hammering sheet metal I found myself standing on something. That is in part because my vise sits on top of the bench and thus lifts the work piece up.

I'm 5'11" and my workbenches are at 32-36", but for precision work I use my bench top toolbox that is at 46". I'll use a barstool if I want to sit at the higher work space.

My heavy duty workbench is 36". But I do most of my work on a 3'x6' folding table that I put a heavy plywood top on. The nice feature of the table is that I can quickly change the height from 36" to 30" or 24".
Mine is exactly at ground height, because I haven't built it yet.
