Mom grew up in Colorado and my dad considers it his home state too. I grew up listening to CW (stole dad's albums when I went to college to enlighten my roomates). Wife doesn't get it, kids think I'm weird (probably nothing to do with my choice in music though ).

'Nuther piece of unusual/potentially useless southwestern Colorado truckin' trivia: there are CW McCall-approved Rubber Duck hood ornaments out there, mostly on big rigs, but some on VWs, that are made here in beautiful downtown Ridgway, population 900 on a good day, at Billings Artworks, who also make the Grammy awards. Yep, every Grammy for the last almost 20 years has been made here.

Y'all gotta come see this area someday. In ref to Keith's comments on Black Bear, it's not technically difficult for a high-clearance 4WD (unless you drive a big thing like a dually, but that's another story), but the problem is that if you miss a turn, and its switchbacks are really, really tight, you die. Period. The dropoff is about 800 feet straight down, and you won't even bounce along the way. As CW said in the song, "You don't have to be crazy to drive this road, but it helps."

Yup, it focuses the mind and makes you think about the four drum brakes and the single circuit I boosted brake system you built yourself. Although the section at the top that was covered in snow and basically worked like a bobsled run was exciting. But not really difficult.

I've driven Wolf Creek Pass (way up on the Great Divide) and taken the Silverton train in large part due to CW. It's like having a checklist of things to do in the San Juans.
