I'm thinking the Bonzo Dog Band's "Hunting Tigers Out In India", or that Carmina Burana (sp?) opera.

I saw that in the news. While it's cool and everything, what happens when your battery runs down, or you're capping Pavement Challenged at night and don't want to light your face up? I don't think there is a substitute for learning the basics (30 caliber): 0 at 100, aim 3" up at 200, another 3" up at 3, 4" more at 4, 5" at 5, 6" at 600. Full wind, aim at the upwind side of the chest. Uphill or downhill shot? Aim low. That should get you on target out to 600.

I'm 50% with you, Hess. I don't like to rely on batteries, but my training was very specifically against "kentucky windage" adjustments. Modern sights and scopes have clicker adjustments, so why not use them? An M16A2 is pretty basic in this day and age, yet will deliver a .223 caliber aspirin to 600 yards (and beyond) all day long.
I don't think I'd choose the iPod system for a real-world need, but I'd sure like to try it for an afternoon...
Oh, I think it would be cool to play with. But those bullet drops should be pretty close with M2 ball. Just know what Full Wind is (MOA). And I certainly think that elevation should be dialed in and not held over, unless you just don't have time. Trying to hold over 21" for a 600 yd shot would be a bit of a SWAG. The wind thing, well, depending on how much wind and what direction, I think a little "Kentucky Windage" wouldn't hurt there. Even Hathcock added a little extra for windage by holding it on the upwind side when he shot the NVA general at 600.
That's a cool game, Apexcarver. Much better than the skeet shooting, bop the whatever ones. I got a 63 my second try. I've never used a Mil Dot system before and the first time it took me a while to get my ranging down. I still need to work on the wind corrections. I don't like having to have a calculator. One more thing with a battery go fail. Humm, I'll have to dig out my slide rule.
maybe that is why Steve Jobs is sick, he couldn't handle the fact that his products were being used for anything other than good.

Funny thing, I am an engineering major and have never used one, havent ever learned.
Cool concept, though that would be useless in combat. You'd reduce your night vision considerably, adding to highlighting ones self. Plus in combat simple is usually more effective. God even adding the few ounces of an iPod touch to my weapon makes me cringe LOL.
I read something where marine spotters are now using a rugged Palm with similar software on it and then feeding that info to the trigger man.
