I watched Initial D's first season in about 2008. I'm not an anime fan but I'm a fan of good anime, but in any case I saw it for what it is - an anime for teenage boys who don't have a car yet. Entertaining but not as life altering for me as it seems to be for some people :P
In any case, I bought an AE86. Protip: They're fun to drive fast OR sideways.
Watched it complete again, this time on Netflix Long time love addiction to Initial D
Initial D was my first exposure to drifter culture. I just saw the Tpop version in the store and picked it up. Subs for me, especially on that release. Not only did they bury a sub-plot and give the characters Americanized names in the dub, they even changed the music! I think Stu Levy was lobbying to get the thing on Toonami at the time, so he just did the editing for them. I think I did Tpop through the end of Second Stage, but they were releasing the DVDs so slowly I wen't back to fansubs. I think I saw it all but the Battle Stage 2 and the Mako/Ikitani redux ("Extra Stage 2"?)
