I prefer to call it a dream tax. And whenever it gets over $500 million I pay it.  While the odds are over 300 million to one. At least for a few days I get to dream about being generous and giving to the people I care about, and to a few deserving people I don’t know yet.

IIRC, if you want to use a blind trust (state laws permitting), you don't sign it.  There was a big news story/legal battle about that some months ago about a woman in NH or ME or something who didn't want to be publicly known, but had already signed the ticket.

Yeah, that is what I'd heard. You have the trust or the LLC win the lottery. 

I think in Illinois, I'd have to do the LLC because whatever fund/trust/company has to be set up already prior to the drawing. Well, you can buy an LLC for about $500, so buy one in a state where ownership records can be anonymous, and have that LLC win the lottery.

That could work. But if you buy them in the right states (not Illinois, but just buy one incorporated elsewhere, like Wisconsin) they shouldn't be traceable at all. 

If you took the one time payment, and put one hundred million away for your own use, you could still build and finance an entire building at the Mayo Clinic...

Well I didnt win.  Fortunately I only spent the few bucks I found in my jacket the first time I put it on this fall.  I found I spent much of the time thinking about how I was going to build my van if I had all the money.  Now I'm thinking about how I'm going to build my van without a lot of money.  Turns out it's the same, just less fancy tools.
