On vacation this week I saw one in North Port, FL and then another in Dover, NH when I came home. So weird to see them. My mother saw it (not a car person) and said, "What is that? A ugly space ship?" I told her it was designed by Elon ;) and she said, "Well that makes sense now!".

Best sci-fi view of the current internet was in Anathem by Neal Stevenson. He saw it getting filled up by generated "bulshytt" and becoming unusable.

In the Bridge trilogy? I think it's time for me to revisit that one, because I don't remember that specifically.

...but completely failed to imagine mobile phones.  Even he makes fun of himself for that.

Can't remember but it was one of his earlier ones.

I remember there was a famous person in it who was famous for no reason other than being a personality and her life was livestreamed onto the net 24/7

Might have been in Neuromancer

Might have been Idoru, which is about a virtual idol. Which was also prescient.

Was that part of the Sprawl or the Bridge trilogy?

Wasn't that Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Aka the book that very, very, extremely loosely got turned into Blade Runner

Idoru is the second book in the Bridge trilogy.

I don't think I've read the Bridge trilogy.

Definitely read the Sprawl set and the Blue Ant set - loved all those books.

Read both of the released books in the Jackpot trilogy, but I'm less than impressed so far.  Peripheral was good enough, but Agency was well below par.

In reply to Duke :

Bridge is more closely related to Sprawl than Blue Ant. Good stuff. Johnny Mnenomic introduced the concept IIRC.

Meme slightly related.

I thought Johnny Mnemonic was the short story that led to Neuromancer.

At least, I recall Molly recalling, in Neuromancer, events from Johnny Mnemonic in the past tense.
