Doesn't seem fair, does it?

I always have someone call to ask how much Benadryl they should give their dog to keep them calm during the explosions.

How about you come by before we close, and pick up something that'll work?

Pills.  Doggie downers.  Out last dog was an 80 lb. Golden retriever - Airdale mix.  He jumped out of a 2nd story window during a storms, twice; he almost hung himself jumping out of the bathroom window.  Pills.

For a dog that's going to jump through a second story window (one of my patients did, also), you've got to use a sedative.

For less severe anxiety, it's much better to use antianxiety meds. While acepromazine will sedate the dog, it's doing nothing to help with the underlying noise phobia, and will actually sensitize the dog to sound.

This means that while the dog looks okay, they're actually more freaked out, but just can't react. It will get worse in the long run.
