I'm 56 years old, retired, and had breakfast with the Cap'n this morning. It may be followed by an extended session with the Captain this afternoon.
Though the latter may actually be a little better than that-- some bourbon barrel aged rum from the local distillery.
Did not watch cartoons while eating breakfast though.
I spent at least a day thinking you and captdownshift had breakfast together and then planned an evening of drinking together also. I'm slow sometimes.
When the multimeter started to burn my hands, I realized I might not be using it correctly and should have downloaded the online manual before proceeding. Fortunately it seems like I stopped doing it wrong before causing any permanent damage, because it works okay when I plug the leads into the correct ports.

Sounds like you should go to YouTube for more education. Have you checked out ElectroBOOM?

I like the Finnegan/Newbern or Finnegan/Tony Angelo pair up as much, if not more, than Finnegan and Freiburger.
And I like Tony Angelo and Lucky better than either of them. They make a great team the last couple seasons and they're hilarious.

The worst part is that I watched a youtube video on it yesterday. I think I assumed all multimeters would have the same layout because in the video I think the red lead had to be in the left port. It turns out that on the multimeter I just bought, it has to go in the right port for almost everything, and the left port is only for some function I don't need right now.

I have absolutely no explanation for this, but I have an almost debilitating fear of attics. The good news is that it isn't something that I often need to confront. The bad news is that my wife wants ethernet cables run to the guest room on the second floor of the house. My options involve getting around in the attic or doing a crapload of drywall work. So, this week on "Bill Faces His Irrational Phobias"...

Can't help you there. Mine is different, I absolutely hate driving next to bodies of water. Convenient I live in Florida.

I've spent a lot of time in attics. While not fun they can be overcome. I think you have my number if you'd like advice but if not PM me.

I have an almost debilitating fear of Attica... but that seems completely rational to me.
I'm probably enjoying this new multimeter too much. It has a battery test mode that I just used to find out if some old AA batteries are still good, and confirm that the one in my wireless mouse was bad. I'm thinking about testing all the batteries in the house now. (And yes, I realize I could actually just check the battery in the regular DC voltage mode...but that doesn't have nice LEDs that light up)
I applied Turtle Wax Seal N Shine to the new chrome burner drip pans on the electric range.
Worth a shot, eh.
I had to replace the water filter assembly that supplies the whole house. I cut a couple of pipes, replaced the filter housing, and replaced the pipes using Shark Bite fittings.
Before inserting the old pipe into the new fittings, I cleaned up the ends. It looked so good that I shined up the rest of the pipe section before reinstalling it. I think it came out pretty nice.
I remember my father telling me a story about going to see our old neighbor, who was a WWII Navy Vet. His wife said that he was down in the basement, and when my father went down the stairs, he was polishing the pipes on his furnace with Brasso.
Minor Confession: I want to polish my pipes.

So that's what the kids are calling it these days.

I've driven by Lane Automotive 20x this summer and today I decided to cruise the parking lot to check for cool cars. Maybe a 2005-ish White Mustang, looked lowered a bit, nice rims but the dude was in it so no pics.
I confess I've cruised The Tire Rack employee lot in South Bend and Mikuni near Schaumburg, IL.
Tire Rack employees had the coolest cars.

You're a real mensch, thank you! I think I've found a better way to solve my wiring problem, though. Apparently they make a super long and flexible auger bit that was invented for the purpose of running wires through existing drywall walls. I hunted around up there a bit last night and I was expecting to see some sort of riser or conduit that all the cable would have been run through from the basement up to the attic, but there was absolutely nothing like that. Just a hole in a 2x4 that was absolutely stuffed to the max with coax and cat5. The new plan is to find a good place in the wall and cut out the spot for the box then use the flexible bit to drill down into the first floor wall, navigate carefully around any electrical that might be there, through the fire break, and then through the floor into the basement. Then it's a simple matter of fishing the cables straight up.
Not something I'd expected to be considering...
i8 in for service to fix a weeping front axle seal, and as opposed to the 840 I was given as a loaner last time, I'm driving an X3e.
Two hour drive home and found it to be a surprising nice traveling vehicle for what it is. The thing that really has me thinking is that, now that my daily traveling is a couple of minutes between the house, clinic and town, a plug-in hybrid would cover all my normal driving needs on electric and still have a vehicle capable of extended/winter travel that isn't my wife's truck. This would let me get rid of both the i3 and the 2008 328xi and I could stop stacking 4 cars in three car garage.
I don't think I'm seriously considering this, but I'm curious what kind of deal I could get put together.
I saw one of these in the drive thru tonight on my way home from work:
2021 Hyundai Sonata SEL Plus in Glowing Yellow. That is the only trim that you can get that color in.
The shape and the color caught my eye. I couldn't see the badging but I knew it had to be Korean. It was a very attractive car from behind and the 3/4 rear view. I had to look it up when I got home just to see what it was. It was very well styled and I liked it a lot.
However, the front is... Eh...
I kind of wish I had fought Randy.
I'm quite content with my little white zippy car...

Those types of things always go better in your head. The incident is never as big a deal as the aftermath.

The Miata's transmission has been difficult getting into first and reverse this year. Then at the FLR SCCA Not A Tour I noticed that after me and my codriver essentially were hot-lapping it on a 60 second course that the clutch wasn't fully releasing. I'd be on the start line getting ready to launch and the car would be creeping ahead. Replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders tonight (the latter was 4 years old, the former at least 7) and it was better but not great. Then I check the clutch pedal freeplay spec. Measured: 1 inch plus. Spec: 0.02-0.12 inches. Oh.

Turns out, stainless steel Rust-Oleum paint in a can is highly magnetic, and now it looks like I fisted a go-bot. This is only slightly less destructive than our original plan, which was pull the fire alarm because we're not convinced it's hooked up.

This will go down as one of the best found-object, no-context, minimalist tragedy stories of all time.
Right up there with Hemingway's classic "For sale. Baby carriage. Never used."
