Why does this stapler that I pulled out of a box of junk work fine with the staples that were still in it, and the stapler I bought last year not work.
This stapler works fine with new staples also.

Champcar at Watkins Glen would have been this weekend. Right now we’d be hanging out, probably eating dinner after getting the car ready.
The sad thing is: because of geography, those are friends I only get to see at races, and I didn’t make it last year. I was really looking forward to it.
My executive function (or what is left of it) feels like an hours-long post-dinnertime lima bean standoff between a parent and a picky toddler.
Not sure if this belongs in the rant section or the win section.
The good news is: My dad made it thru surgery. The had to do a lot but its not all terrible news.
I got to see him yesterday!
He looks way better than they were describing to me over the phone and I got him some stuff to remind him of us including the canvas of our being-chased-by-a-trex wedding picture.
We are now talking about the long recovery instead of more terrible outcomes.
The bad news:
They aren't sure he's gonna keep the lung. It is in bad shape, his other lung has grown and taking up slack but the bad lung is very scarred.
The reason I got to see him was he can't talk and they haven't really gotten thru to him the gravity of his care so far. He wanted to get out and they thought he was refusing medical treatment because of the horrible outcome, not because he was tired of being in the hospital.
Overall they don't 100 percent get my dad so they are filling in the blanks themselves. So I had to explain a lot of stuff and get in some very stressful conversations most the day
Also.....when they found out my dad was a musician they gave him some harp music to listen to and have a harp player coming by to play for him.
My dad likes The Beatles and Black Sabbath. His current favorite song is House of Sleep by Amorphis. Not the music he wants here
In reply to Antihero (Forum Supporter) :
I dunno- ask the harp player to play some Sabbath, that could be fun!
In reply to Antihero (Forum Supporter) :
I'm so happy that your dad is coming along, I pray he has a good recovery.

I mean.....I can't say I didn't think the same thing and thought I was kinda crazy lol

Thank you Wally, it's appreciated
This is my soon to be 97 year old Dad (2 months away) cutting grass today at my place. This isn't even my property but he insists 'it needs done'. The neighbor will get it in due time. I never asked him to cut or trim here, well over 25 years ago. When Mom was alive she'd say ' just let him go, he likes that kind of work'. Maybe that keeps him going, I dunno.
He then insisted I rake up and get on the weed control. If people ever heard me talk to Dad like I do they'd accuse me of elder abuse. Yes, I have to yell at him. "Let it the berkeley go!" But that doesn't even phase him.
He then drove off in his Buick.

Thanks for the update, glad to hear he’s doing better even if it’s with a long recovery. I’ll admit I did laugh a little at the irony of Mr. Walking Bass Cabinets / Loosened Siding Nails being serenaded by harp music, that’s a bit off his usual genre. Hang in there, I hope you can get a little rest for yourself, sounds like there’s a bit of a road to travel.

Today's rant: Nobody has done this yet and posted it to YouTube.
I did find this, which is too awesome to not share:

He looks good for 97. Is he one of my WWII hero's? That generation kicked butt.

OK, I didn't know there was such a thing as an Electric Harp, though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. That was pretty cool- I love 'crossover'-type music (see:TSO), so of course I'm going enjoy that too!

I think he should have told you but as far as leaving, he was let go so he moved on. They can call it furloughed, but if you're told you are not getting paid for awhile, you know where you rank.
How can an employer get mad when someone they don't value isn't loyal?
I mean, nearly everyone at our work got furloughed, thanks to 'Rona. They furloughed 10 of the 13 service technicians, the entire sales staff, 90% of the office help, even the janitor,. They are calling people back steadily though.
we have 6000 employees in my building. 90% of them got Furloughed with this. It's a skeleton crew in there keeping the building in one peice
Not a rant but related.
I got furloughed, just talked to the head of IT. He's hoping 1 Aug for me.
I just hope he's not being optimistic cause if I don't get hired back by 1 Sept I'm finding a job.
And that would screw me going to the Challenge which would E36 M40.
OK, maybe I'm grumpy because I used up most of the nice weather this weekend (aka yesterday) to make another attempt at fixing the brakes on my wife's Wrangler. Which now has four working brakes but that's not what I'm ranting about.
Someone posted a motorcycle on FB Marketplace that I may be interested in, then amends the ad to say "This is my dad's, I'm not involved, don't message me".
Right.
Now take a berkeleying guess how many other methods of contact are listed in said ad?
There might've been a reason people were messaging you, ma'am.

Third Army Infantry, post-invasion France. Not many war stories but sounds like he snacked his way across the French countryside and goofed off. Secret to longevity... work ethic. I should take notes.
