When we had to have the sump pump replaced in a hurry during a downpour last month it cost about $400 including the cost of the new pump- I expected it to be more, especially with them coming right over when we called, but it was worth it to not worry about the basement flooding.
Our previous system had a main pump with a battery backup and a secondary, smaller pump that ran if the primary failed (and set off an alarm, which is what alerted us to the main one having gone out). They only had a standard pump on the truck so that was what got installed, but they left behind the old system and said that it would probably be possible to set the backup pump back up but they didn't have the hardware for it though they did put the level switch for the alarm back on so at least we'd know if the water got high again. Having a backup pump sitting on the shelf in the garage isn't a bad idea, may have to do that...
I need to remind myself to be careful about stuff like this - I like backups, and backup of backups - I do have insurance that would foot the bill. But I also live in an area that floods. While this house shouldn't, because of the work that has been done to it, it is very plausible that it could.
In reply to mtn (Forum Supporter) :
Our master bedroom, and the closet the size of some bedrooms themselves that is attached to it, is in the basement not 30 feet from the sump, not to mention all of the house's mechanicals (HVAC, water heater, W/D)- so the basement flooding would be a massive loss for us. It was why I didn't even ask how much the plumbers that said they would be right over were going to charge- whatever it was would have been less than simply replacing the HVAC...
Looks like I get to learn how to replace a tablet screen.
Throwing up your hands and flashing your (surprisingly dim for a modern car) headlights because you had to slow down and yield to traffic coming from the left, ME, will do you no good. In fact, it might prompt me to slow down.
If you're going to flip out over a roundabout, you should berkeleying know how they work you twat.
Looking at trucks. Keep seeing these.

Offer them half of what they are asking.
The rear suspension is clearly broken.

With as high as the front is, I assume the engine was pulled out, then thrown into the bed to get it out of the way.
Panic attacks are not much fun. Woke up this morning with some pain at the sternum that faded. Just a dull "something there" ache. An hour later I feel lightheaded and my blood pressure and heart rate take off. Like 271/120 with a HB of 130. Two hours in hospital, enzyme test was perfect, EKG was perfect, Xrays showed nothing amiss. THey called my doc, I got a shot to slow everything down and a new prescription to tone me down.
I guess a year of not working, caring for two elderly adults (who do not even live in the same town) dealing with a sister who is bipolar, and everything else finally caught up with me and gave me a good slap across the face.

If you think panic attacks are bad, try having one in your sleep.
The small chip in the window of my wife's escape from last week decided to crack about 30 inches long today.

If you think that is bad , try waking up falling 10 times a night.

I don't know what's worse: dealing with my 13 year old when she's acting up or dealing with my wife's inability to deal with it.

Sorry dude. Those are real. I have a friend who nearly died when he passed out on the highway and another who was in the ICU, both panic attacks.
Well, damn. Not a surprise. We'll see if someone braver than me starts the thread.

Nobody is Rushing to start anything that will inevitably become a political thread, I guess.

Hah. I know exactly where that is.
California you win after trying and failing to build things to the CARB laws you have I am done. The R8 is gone, my Viper is gone and with it the last of the cars I will build and modify that are "modern". The darn near 3K I was spending a year on registration on modern cars that I rarely drive is also gone. Cars that blow clean and have cats but where even factory parts are not always available so illegal. Registration on cars that were clearly built for the track that I just want to drive over and get tires mounted on. Still blow clean but not 100% to the rules.
So I am playing by your rules. My 55 thunderbird is going to shoot flames, have a supercharger and just be as crazy as I want to build it. You can have the 88$ a year for registration on it and pound sand. Does it pollute more, yes it does, does it eat more gas yes it does and its stupid that you would not just test my modern cars and see that they were clean enough. I am going to drive it more because you would not let me even try to meet a reasonable test pipe. I am back to building vintage motorcycles.
If I do something modern its getting registered out of state at one of the other homes and yeah you can lose the reg and tax on that as well because I just cannot fathom what you are thinking.
Just tired and another car I wanted did not pass inspection and cannot be brought into california without major issues.
Me too. Since 1:15am. Sucks.

At least I can blame my not sleeping on Dana thinking she gets the whole king size bed to herself. What I can't blame on her is the berkeleying school calling at 515 to say they're going virtual for the day. Because that gives everybody a great chance to get out of work for the day or find shift replacements or babysitters on no notice.
Hope I can figure something out soon for income, if for no other reason than to donate snow chains to the bus garage for in the future
