Apparently there's a spine thing and nerves and pinching and infringing, which explains the tingling and weakness in certain appendages and daily headaches, and next week someone in a white coat is gonna jam a needle in my spine/neck.

Not to be a wimp or whatever, but I don't like needles. Especially big ones. Not gonna be a great weekend with the thought of this hanging over me.

Trying to arrange to view a BRZ. Due to the weather, the seller and I agreed to not meet up last weekend, but meet up tomorrow.

He sent me lots of information about the car (yay), but apparently he can't give me an answer to the simple question "when and where do you want to meet up tomorrow"?

Someone remind me again why I love buying and selling cars?

Our tax return is pending in the bank, so we decided to do the American thing and spend some before we get it. Nothing too crazy, just going out to a great local gyro place that's usually $30 for the both of us. Well the kids are going to bed soon so let's just wait until they're down and SIL can make sure they stay in bed while we go get takeout. Google says the place closes at ten so we've got time.

Sign on the door says their covid temporary hours mean they close at 9. What time did we pull up? 9:12.

I was really looking forward to that spicy chicken. Now we're waiting for our order at Red Robin because in-n-out just didn't sound great tonight.

My grandma died. We didn't always have a close relationship but she came to my wedding and gave me an afgan she made me when I was born, she never told me that it was gonna be my wedding present some day. She was in her 80s by this point and wasn't sure she could even fly since her health hasn't been great.

I'm sitting with it now. Really sucks because I was starting to have a good relationship with her and even video chatted with her on Christmas.

She was my last grandparent

Sorry about your loss, anti. Especially since it seems like you were getting closer.  My thoughts are with you and your family.

Not trying to make this about me, but the only grandparent I ever knew died when I was 8. I am a bit envious of people who had theirs into adulthood.

Sorry Antihero, it's good you got to talk to her on Christmas.  My wife just lost one of her grandmothers a little over a week ago, and it's been hard on her.  Fortunately, she was able to video chat with her recently, too.

My wife (we) lost an Aunt yesterday and the odd feeling was she was the last one out of 11 kids.  That closed the chapter on that generation.   Feels weird.

I'm honestly not sure that they could have been done better under the constraints that there are, but the vaccine scheduling is a gigantic PITA so far for most places offering it. I've been working the systems trying to get elderly friends and relatives their appointments. There is no way they'd have figured this out. What do the people who don't have friends/relatives to navigate this do?

My uncle is the one that gave me the news. I realized in the middle of the call that he has outlived his dad, his younger sister, his older sister ( my mom) and now his mom. He's only 65, that pretty depressing.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone

Bought this e36 Vert "non-project" because I was sick of working on everything I own. Went out today and it wouldn't start off the key. Pulled the battery, charged it in the garage, put it back in and now I have dash lights at one spot in the accessory switch and nothing anywhere else. And of course, no starting. Yay! Another project!

Doing a quick clean up the interior of a truck I just bought.  I think smokers and air fresheners are like little old ladies and perfume.  If you can smell it, you're using too much.

I felt terrible all day. I shouldn't but I do. For a couple weeks there was some hope she'd be out of the hospital next month. This week there were some setbacks.  Then last night she texted me at about 3am that she was scared, the other woman in her room coded and didn't make it. She needed to talk and I slept through it. I haven't heard from her all day. I don't think she's mad about it because that's how she is but i told her I'd be here for her and I wasn't.   Throw in that a year ago today was the last time I saw my dad, and that I spent the day at my in-laws talking about Jodi and I just hurt.  I'm so tired of everything.

I still forgot stuff at home, 12hrs away. Not worth the time to ship it. Also trying to leave on a time that isn't 2 in the afternoon would help too...

We spent 3 whole days last week with outdoor temps hovering below 15 degrees F. and indoor at 40 degrees.

My body still feels like it was beaten with a rubber hose.   Getting old sucks, except for the alternative.

When we got our taxes done a few weeks ago, we learned that I had the withholding set WAAAAY too high, and with it adjusted back down to where it should be so we don't get a ridiculous refund next year we have enough extra in the budget to start paying down the mortgage and loan on The Dancer's truck a bit faster. Easily set up the additional mortgage principal payments through the bank website, but when I went to set up the one for the truck the website wouldn't let me. So, I call up the bank and talk with them- and find out that apparently there isn't a way to set up true automatic payments beyond the basic monthly loan payments set when we got the loan... I have to go in and manually set up the payments for each month (apparently it's possible to schedule a number of them ahead of time). I mean, I get why... being able to easily make additional principal payments means they'll get less money on interest on the loan- but it's pretty crappy to do as well.

I, on the other hand, owe the Feds about $4500 this year... which leads to my Minor Rant®:

DW and I file a Joint return.  Our salaries do not vary much from year to year, or month to month.  Our kids have been non-dependent for years.

We both have taxes withheld at the Single rate (which is higher).

We both have zero deductions listed on our W4s.

Yet every year we owe the Feds something in the low-to-mid 4 figures.

Dear IRS:

IT'S YOUR BERKING TAX CODE.  YOU CALCULATE HOW MUCH TO WITHHOLD.  WHY DO NOT EVEN YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT SHOULD BE TO COME CLOSE TO MEETING YOUR OWN REQUIREMENTS?

We have a special election going on for our small city to fill a council seat. And the same old issue is being trotted out to scare voters. I'm tired of it. I told the candidates to either start working on a solution, or stop complaining about the problem. We have actual, real problems in our city. How two small house lots *may* be developed (if ever) isn't the most pressing issue. I probably pissed off a few people, but it needed to be said.

Mrs. tester and I had the same problem. We ended up at zero deductions plus extra withholding each month. We still owned about $200 after filing last year. The withholding tables just don't account for married, filing jointly, no dependents, etc...

What amazes me is that we specifically withhold as if we were single and they get nowhere near the right amount.  Given that we file jointly and have 2 deductions we should be getting back about what we owe.

I shudder to think what it would be like if we were actually single and claimed a deduction on out W4s.

That right there kids is what happens to a 60 year old valley rafter when we get an ice storm, snow, another ice storm, and some sleet for good measure.

Fortunately it's only a minor rant.  The shingles were getting old and wind damaged so with my $1000 deductible I'll be getting a whole new roof.
