Speaking of which? Tried to have brother's case manager step down gracefully, instead she went full nuclear and Mom went bipolar ballistic.
So now I have to placate my special needs brother who's had his Mom yell at him over the phone, pull the trigger on the Freedom of Choice paperwork, let the new case manager know about the E36 M3 show headed his way and potentially an investigation about how all this went down.
Mom claims we want his money, which we don't and thinking about it, it seems suspicious that she suddenly paid off the house she was nearly evicted from and couldn't afford running water because of back bills. He has a separate group that manages his money and we don't have any visibility into it.
I just want to take care of my brother and make sure he doesn't end up in the hospital, especially without any help again. Why is it so berkeleying hard?
In reply to Stefan (Forum Supporter) :
Thieves always think you are stealing from them just like liars think you are lying to them. What's the saying.......when people try to tell you what they are, listen? Or something like that.
Might want to tip off his new case manager about that
In reply to Antihero (Forum Supporter) :
Yep. Did that. I'll let the investigator (if there is one) deal with that. I just want to make sure he's taken care of and not parked in hole to rot.
New guy is pretty even keeled and quite smart. Fingers crossed that he sees right though all the bullE36 M3 and gets down to brass tacks.

Best of luck with the situation. Good on you for fighting to help instead of walking away.
Forgot to check for the old gasket. I was lazy and complacent.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!
In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) (Forum Supporter) :
Don't feel bad, we have all done that at least once.

At least you didn't catch it on fire. I never had a gasket that didn't come off with the filter and figured it was just an old wives' tale so I stopped checking. Then I set my RV on fire. So I always check now.
I fixed my dryer. You know what it was? The berkeleying breaker. I guess I tripped only one leg when I replaced the bulb but the breaker only has one lever and I didn't cycle it because it wasn't tripped.
Oh well. The dryer is nice and clean, inside and out, and has a new blower seal so it won't blow lint everywhere.
Lesson learned.
In reply to stanger_mussle (Forum Supporter) :
Thanks.
And I did the same with my dryer last year. Even bought a new one because I couldn't "fix" it. Turned out one leg of the 220 was bad at the outlet and wasn't feeding power to the heater circuit. Learned to check everything.

Astoundingly, I haven't yet. Hopefully this will fall into my "the cheapest education is learning from the mistakes of others" because I was either never taught to check for the old gasket... or have forgotten that particular lesson. @ Jeremy Thanks for sharing so others can learn!!

Gotta love random local Reddit folks. Dude asks about help because he bought a ton of stuff from IKEA and needs to haul it to his new, empty apartment. His friend with the truck flaked on him and dude doesn't drive.
Well, return the E36 M3 and then rebuy it with the delivery charge and then stop at a store along the way to buy an air mattress or call your dumbass friend to get off their ass and help you as agreed. An Uber XL might work as well,
So why am I the shiny happy person for trying to solve the problem you created? You chose not to drive, which eliminates grabbing a pickup from the Home Depot down the street, I can't help you with that.
I try to not get down on folks because not everyone is in a place to solve their own problems, but Jesus don't kill the messenger.
Yeah, there's a lot wrong with IKEA, but the home delivery compares really well with renting a U-Haul, struggling with heavy boxes, and waiting in the lines they're too cheap to prevent. $50 spent to pick every single part and fitting for my new closet storage system, haul it to me, and set it on my living room floor wins every day of the week, and I drive.
Profoundly tired, can't sleep. Did a self install of a radio in my wife's truck, put the radio in the dash, and a bunch of stuff doesn't work. Continuity is good on my harness, so tomorrow, I get to try swapping the old radio to see if something got borked on the oem wiring, or if there's some reason the right speakers would be good, but the left speakers wouldn't. Then I get to try to figure out why the backup camera isn't sending video or a reverse signal. Also, the USB port pigtails for Toyota empty switch knockouts are apparently all garbage, and there is no buying your way out of cheap, lowest bidder crap. I was having so much fun at the beginning of this, but I keep finding a new wire that needs to be run, and I'm burnt on it, probably because I haven't slept properly in weeks.
That side by side weighs as much as a small car. Maybe you shouldn't let your 12 yo drive it unsupervised. Maybe she could have listened and stayed on the other 400 acres like she was asked instead of racing through the yard.
Meanwhile thanks for providing me the opportunity for a trip to the ER vet on Easter Morning after she ran over my dog.
And if the dog dies...well let's just pray that doesn't happen.

Well crap. The left front and rear don't work on the OEM head unit either, making me question whether it was broke before I started. Wishing I'd done a system test before starting the job.

Oh no. All of us at the homestead are pulling for a fast and full recovery for your pup.
Well. E36 M3.
Guess we aren't mowing today
$4000 to $7000 to put her guts back where they belong.
I really don't like people right now.

I'd start the wheels turning on lawsuits/charges if it's that much.
The family needs to pay that to you now

Found a bad splice job made the rear camera inop. Fixed that. Decided to route the wire and put the truck together to wrap up the two weekend project. The left side speakers are a future problem, after I find a diagram of the speaker wiring harness. Minor win in that the missus more or less has her bday present now. Android auto and a backup camera is what she wanted, and that's mission accomplished.

I am a firm believer in making people pay for their mistakes. But this is family, the daughter of a deceased uncle, and I know she doesn't have that kind of money.
We will be having a discussion about who should and should not be allowed to drive those types of machines around the property and where they should drive them at the next family meeting. A young teen has no business driving a 2300 pound side by side without supervision.
Today, I decided to finally install the clutch master and slave cylinders in my Kia. I've had the parts for about 9 months now. I want to see if this fixes the clutch issue where it drives fine for the first 30 minutes, then the clutch pedal gets "sticky" and sticks to the floor.
I replaced the master first because it felt like the piston was binding in the bore. It wasn't too bad to replace but when I went to bleed the system, the bleeder on the slave cylinder was sucking air around the threads. So then I changed the slave.
Much suckage later, and I finally have the slave changed out. Right about then, I discovered my $75 MityVac vacuum bleeder really doesn't work that great and leaks where the adapter slips over the nipple.
FINALLY, I think I have it bled enough. It's sitting in my garage now, idling so I can get it up to temp to see if the sticky pedal issue is still there.
If that didn't fix it, I'm looking at about $1k to replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing on a car that's worth maybe $2500 .

That's fair, is it her side by side? Maybe it should be sold to pay for some/all of the bills.
Or maybe working it off with whatever yard work etc she can do.
I agree on people should take ownership of their mistakes and should be responsible for their actions too. It doesn't always make me the most popular though I'll admit
In reply to Toyman01 (Moderately Supportive Dude) :
Just a wild guess, but I'm pretty sure your niece feels like smashed E36 M3 right now.
Best of luck on the pooch.

That is absolutely horrifying, not just the money but the injuries' extent. I feel sick just thinking about what the lil' guy is going through
