If you don't like gym class now, you're really going to hate when I find a bored vet to be your drill instructor all summer.

Chasing broken wires somewhere between the underhood fuse block and the rear bumper on a 2019 Chevy 2500HD, because GM apparently forgot how to make wiring harness and the harness on all the newer trucks develop all sorts of broken and corroded wires after 2 or 3 years time.

One of the most noticeable differences between my Silverado and the Ridgeline that replaced it is the installation of the wiring harness. GM installed the harness and fastened it occasionally. Mostly it just sits there, held in place by gravity and the occasional tie-down.
Honda installed the harness and fastened it every 4 inches or so. Every connector is supported in some way instead of the wire holding it. It's impressive.
As to repairing a shorted harness. If I know where it's coming from and going to, I usually just run a new wire and abandon the old one in place.
My plan:
Requirements I find out when I try to do that:
Now I'm cross (largely with myself) because I was so intimidated by the renting of a big piece of equipment that I hand-dug the construction entrance, and now that I'm on day two with the excavator and try to back the dump trailer up there, I find out that it's not going, and I need to re-dig it closer to its final, much shallower shape before I can proceed.
Which is really kinda part of the job I'm doing anyway, just not in the order I had in my head, and now I wish I'd just rented a loader or something to dig the final driveway shape the first time.
Anyhow, lunch is probably warmed up. Time to go inhale it and go back to figuring out how to move all those levers...

Out of curiosity, why not just register the trailer in Maine online of via snailmail? There's a reason so many people do that.
Might be because I am stupid, but I have never been able to figure out how to do that.

He's trying to find a broken wire, not a shorted one. Shorts are super simple to find: replace the fuse that keeps blowing with a windshield washer pump (or, if you want to really be annoying, a horn) and systematically wiggle the harness until the thing either starts or stops making noise.
*ahem*
99% of the time I've had to look for wiring problems on a truck, it's because some bozo installed a trailer harness with unsealed butt splices, or vampire taps, or Scotch-Locks, and wadded it up with electrical tape, which mostly serves to lock moisture in for freshness.
had someone come up and solicit me while leaving the grocery store this morning... which is a "no" for me usually, but especially here. Complicated by the fact that I can basically only say "nie" in polish and then "sorry" in english. Dude tried a couple other people (I think), and then followed me out to my car. So, I dropped my groceries in and jumped in to the driver's seat, and locked the car. They proceeded to "nonchalantly" walk past my driver's side door to the space behind me and turn around. one part of my brain thinks he was reading my plate, the more generous is thinking maybe he was trying to play off the move.
then, down the road, I decided to stop short for a yellow light. which put me past the line, but everything was fine. I then get towards the next light which the lanes shift a bit to give room for a left turn lane (I'm in the left lane, but going straight) which backs up frequently. So, I was edging towards the right edge of my lane. Then, all of the sudden, dude in the right lane starts honking and speeding up and pointing at his head. I looked at him confused, check around the car to see if I've forgotten something... lights, open door, whatever. And he then gestures at his head again, then speeds up and gets in front of me through the intersection. Another 500meters, and after getting past several cars, he cuts back over to the right lane, and then maneuvers into a "new" right lane that opens up at the next light. I stay in the left lane, and mark him. As we get to that light he turns around again, and looks at me and smiles.
I can think of 5 to 6 different things that he might have been trying to gesture at me for, all of which I could argue I was in the right for doing, and didn't do anything wrong. I get honked at frequently here because I drive differently than some people want me to. So, even without actually speaking, there's still a language barrier.
less than 90days to go.
And it's looking like I'm going to be missing my first track event of the year, my first Chief driving instructor assignment, and Mother's day due to berkeleying supplier delays. So pissed off right now. I've been working my ass off for being CDI for this event. I'm done being on the bottom of the pile. Time to start climbing to the top.

I have never done it myself, but I believe for the initial registration you use a tagging service. Subsequent renewals you can do online through Maine's BMV.
Was going to get some work done in the garage last night in advance of pulling an engine over the weekend. Dinner set my stomach off bad enough that there was no way I was going to crawl around under a truck without getting violently ill. At least it meant I was able to make a quick trip to the parts store to pick up a couple tools I'll need.
WTF Nissan? You have to remove and replace the upper motor mount and the throttle body, just to R & R the valve cover? I think i took apart less stuff when I did the subframe bushings on the POS a couple of months ago. No wonder I see so many aughts' Altimas and Rogues in boneyards, they just too damn hateful to work on.
In reply to 06HHR (Forum Supporter) :
Generally, you are removing the top half of the intake manifold to do that... It's part of the game these days.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
I had to pop the upper intake to do plugs on SWMBO's old 2001 V-6 Santa Fe. A box of Lucky Charms may or may not have given it's life to make a new gasket.
Funny, the Intake was the only thing I didn't have to remove. And only needed to remove the throttle body to get access to one valve cover bolt. Of course you have to pull off all the air filter piping to get to the throttle body bolts. I cheated a bit and was able to get the piece between the Air filter box and the throttle body off, but still, Pain-in-the-a**. Makes me rue the day I have to replace my work beater with something newer. An EV is starting to look a lot better that it did before yesterday. Maybe a used Volt?
The manual for my Excursion claims that the intake has to come off to R&R the right valve cover on the V10. I didn't have any problems with the job that would have been reduced or eliminated by taking off the intake though.
My rant: I really should have bought my SA2020 helmet a couple months ago like I meant to. Hopefully it arrives in time for next Saturday....

I remembered when the helmet thread popped up. Ordered a M2020 helmet from Revzilla on Monday and it just showed up today.
berkeley Cancer
My friend Kim is gone. Shortly after I lost Jodi we met online. She had lost her husband to suicide about a year before I lost Jodi, and she doesn't know it but sharing her story at that time and what it did to so many people is likely why I'm still here and getting help.
Before we could meet in person last fall she was having serious back pain. In presurgical testing they found cancer and immediately transferred her to a hospital in Manhattan. Sadly she'd been in that hospital since last October where she ultimately passed Easter weekend. We talked almost daily except when treatments were kicking her ass and rendered her unable, and in spite of her situation she remained concerned about me, her girl, and the people in the ward with her. I'm ok, but my heart breaks for her daughter who has lost both parents in such tragic circumstances.

Oh, Wally, that is too rough. I'm so so sorry to hear it. I know it has been an agonizing process for you and I'm sorry it ended this way. My thoughts are with you - again, and still.

I'm glad you got to talk to each other and help each other. That is never a bad thing .

Got my lid from Jeg's in under a week.
This isn't exactly a rant, so much as a combination rant/TIL/confession/random thought post.
I have a side gig. This side gig involves working with children. People in my position are independent contractors. There is one person that I have ever requested to not be scheduled with. I'd considered doing this a few years ago when I first worked with him. Every time I worked with him, I thought "he's just a little crazier than I thought he was."
This was all based on break-room stuff. His actual work was 100% acceptable, his performance was fine, my only complaint about him in that capacity would have been that he needed to work on his appearance - not show up in wrinkly clothes, either throw a hat on or comb his hair, and shave more than once a week or commit to the beard. That, and he smelled bad. Like... Take a shower man.
But when it was just the two of us... Man, the stuff coming out of this guys mouth was crazy. Conspiracy theory stuff that was, honestly, just sad. Red-Pill type dude. Well, TIL that he is the son of one of the more famous convicts in this area. The type that has so many hours of tv coverage that everybody knows who this guys dad is. This guy testified against his dad, for whatever that is worth. How did I learn this? In a news article, because this guy that I work with has been charged with a (two?) felony for something that I personally believe should not be a crime, but I confess, I'm happy if it means he doesn't work in the position I'm in ever again. I don't want this guy around me or kids. He's a nut.
