I feel your pain. Once I crossed into Michigan on the TC Monday and on Tuesday morning I was getting up at 4:00am old time rather than 6:00am new time.

The other early Monday travel avoidance is going early through Midway Airport on Southwest Airlines right after the 3-day Lollapalooza concert weekend.  Not enough showers or deodorant used that morning.

There are several members actively (but indirectly) trying to change that.

I agree with everything you said, though I have not been on the forum as long as you have so I don't know people as well as you do.

I had a thread that I enjoyed because I learned so much. It has been going on for a little over a year. Then it stopped being the enjoyable thread of thought and learning (the topic had never been enjoyable).

I have since figured out that if I ignore two, or sometimes three, posters, and all of the replies to those posters, it is very much the thread that it used to be.

Oh algorithm... so powerful but so dumb.

I did a small bit of research a few weeks ago on Cerakote as a possible brake caliper finish. Now my Google and YouTube recommendations are all gun stuff.

Where YouTube used to suggest cooking shows and comedy it is now guys with goatees and wraparound sunglasses and punisher skulls.... sigh

I probably got food poisoning yesterday, and everything leaving me is still liquid. Worst thing is, that all that time freed up is going to waste because it's sapping my focus like none other.

The mechanic has had my Santa Fe since March 2nd to replace the clutch. First, he called in a panic stating that he cannot get the trans and engine separated. I already knew the answer because I researched it before hand but looked it up again. It literally took me 5 minutes to find it again. I stopped by his shop to see how he was doing and to tell him how to remove the trans.

Next, he ordered the clutch parts from AdvanceZone. It took a few days to get delivered. We ended up using my parts that I had purchased 3 months ago because they were better quality.

Now he's got all the new parts on, including a new clutch master and slave, and has everything bled. He texted me tonight in a panic because the clutch is very stiff. He doesn't know what to do.

He's a super nice guy and is a small operation; just him and his wife. But I'm starting to lose my patience. I'm beginning to think that I should have just found a way to do it myself.

I go to McDonald's 2-3X a week but I never eat there.

  1. Being on the road in sales I need to pee so this is a good, quick stop.
  2. I drink cheap, crappy coffee.  Even cheaper if I order a senior coffee. There's a McDonald's near Warsaw, Indiana that has a cup for $.25.

Today I was stupid and it hurt. I stuffed my Miata into the tire barrier simply because I wasn't alert enough to be driving at race pace.  I always preach to my students that they need to pay attention to how they're feeling and that they shouldn't go out on track if they're not up to it.  That's good advice that I'm apparently not smart enough to follow.

I'm sore and likely to feel worse tomorrow but I'll be fine. The car is going to need a fender and a front bumper cover and probably a visit to the frame bench but it could have been much worse.

Preach it, Rev.

Awards shows are a notch worse than even 'reality' shows, and 2 notches below singing/dancing shows.  Totally bottom of the bucket stuff.

At least the singers and dancers have an ounce of talent, even if it is a talent I don't particularly care for.

Honestly, I'd rather watch an award show than a singing/dancing show.

The possible exception being a 70's variety show because they're so incredibly bad at least it's funny.

I actively want to avoid watching either of them, but at gunpoint, I'd choose people doing stuff over people getting congratulated for doing stuff.

You bitch about the DMV and how slow they are. They are trying very hard to streamline the process. They practically beg you to have your information together and your driver's license out while you are waiting in line. They have two people to make sure you have the necessary information, IDs, and forms to complete the tasks you want to be done and highlight the areas that need to be filled out.

Yet half of you can't or won't follow simple directions. You won't get out your driver's license in advance. You don't complete the forms they ask you to, you forget your paperwork and bitch at them about it. You can't even listen for your number when they call you up to the counter. You are a large part of the reason the DMV is slow. If you won't meet them halfway and help them get you through the process faster, you lose the right to complain about their service.

I think I'll be complaining about the idiots that go to the DMV instead of the people who are trying very hard to get you to help them do their job faster.

I can get on board for this. I have had 10 good experiences at the DMV for every bad one. If you have your paperwork together and you aren't trying to pull a scam it usually goes silky smooth. It always amazes my how different the cross section of DMV line standers and the General Population (that I see) appear to be.

Going smoothly when you get to the clerk is the easy part. Getting to the clerk is the hard part. Here in NC, there is a quirk in the system where titles, tags and registration are handled by for profit  independent contractors who pretty much have a lock on their business. Their goal is to staff as thinly as possible to maximize profits.

I have recieved a new title five minutes after walking in the door.  The longest I have ever had to wait for stickers was an hour, because dumbass me went to a busy location before closing on a Saturday.  Usually that is in/out or maybe a ten minute wait.

Hearing about other states makes me feel that people in Ohio who complain about the BMV are entitled whiners.

The title office I go to is usually pretty good.  The BMV office two doors down is okay, as long as you don't throw any curveballs at them.  They can handle a license or tag renewal, new tag, and an out of state inspection(if the car is not on a trailer or tow dolly, or doesn't have a 17 digit VIN, then they kind of freak out).  Anything more complicated than that, and I prefer to go to a specific branch all the way across town.  I dread the day I give in and buy a moped and try to get a tag for it.

Taxes. Look- I generally don't complain about them, since I like having decent roads to drive on, clean water, a functioning government, and all of the things that taxes pay for. We do decently well, and I'm good with paying our fair share toward the common good, even if a large portion of that goes toward things that we don't directly use (like schools) because we do benefit from them indirectly.

But this year, I'm a bit pissed off. I tend to try and run our withholding such that we end up owing a bit come tax time. I don't mind paying taxes, but I'm not that fond of giving an interest-free loan to the government. This year some changes in my compensation because of a promotion meant that we ended up owing a bit more than I'd planned on, and as a result have to pay estimated taxes each quarter. OK- I think this is kind of stupid because for the roughly 30 years I've had to pay my own taxes I've not ever been late (and don't think I've ever had to file for an extension), but I understand that they want to make certain that they get paid.

What I'm NOT good with is that each of the 4 estimated tax payments is like SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT of what I owed this year- so in the end I'll be paying nearly 3 times what I owed this year. This makes absolutely no sense.

My go-to new tire store shows their hours on their own website.  Monday through Friday they say they open at 0700 like they always have.  Cool.  I get there at about 0830 and the place is dark.  Sign on the door says they have new hours now and they don't open until 0900.

Labor shortage.  Supply chain. Inflation.  Whatever.  Not my problem.  Update your damn website if you're going to change your hours.

I don't have time to wait on you deciding to open - I planned my morning around what you published on your website.  So I found another place and went there instead since they are open when they say they're open.

I showed up 30 minutes before they opened and was somewhere around the 40th+ person in line.

They had 17 clerks including the two you see first to make sure you have the correct paperwork and fill out the correct forms.

I was there to get my Real ID and was there for about 40 minutes. If everyone had put forth a little effort I could have shaved 5 minutes off that. Add that up throughout the entire day and it turns into a lot of lost time with clerks waiting on customers who should have had their crap together after step one.
