I have too many different calendars that don't all show up in the same places and some (from other sources) that have wrong information.  So I managed to double-book myself for two different presentations/demos at the same time that I need to be in the car delivering a kid to a school function.  Derp.

One would think there's nonstop flights to Las Vegas from basically every airport ever. Apparently not. I'm even shopping months early, and can't find anything without layovers from Atlantic City to Las Vegas.

Since it's supposed to be east coast Vegas, and competing for business, that's probably the first pair of decent sized cities that I'd think would not have direct flights.

You do NOT want to fly Spirit on anything other than a direct flight. BTDT. Got stuck in Atlantic City. Atlantic City is a tiny airport. Atlantic City only has Spirit and charters. And most routes for Atlantic City only run 1-2 times a day. So if your flight gets canceled, you're waiting. It is a tiny airport with few flights. You're better off flying to Newark or Philly and getting a cab/uber/shuttle.

It's simply the closest airport to my brother who were flying out for a big family trip to Disney. Logistics are real. But I can't find any good round trip options to either Vegas (close to me and directly on the way) or Santa Ana (closest to the park, not even going to consider LAX and Burbank is out of the way)

Ive very rarely flown and the whole process is not my strong suit.

I was going to write a detailed rant about my 14yo sons hockey coach not coming to me about issues with conduct before going to the board of directors for the org, and threatening to kick him off the team, but...

I've reconsidered boring you with the details, but with this:

- I don't appreciate being blindsided, which is exactly what was done, pulling my son and I aside before practice

- Steps should be taken to address any issues early with the parents and player before it escalates to the level of involving the BOD.

- When it involves the coaches kid he should remove himself from the process and have an unbiased representative take the lead

- Don't make the first communication a final warning with a threat of removal from the team.

I just listened last night, and talked with my son to get his version. I also checked with another player whose parent's Im friend with to get their sons version of the incidents.

Today I reviewed video from LiveBarn and thought about it some more and I'm more angry about the approach taken since there was nothing out of the ordinary that I could observe from last weeks practice (when the incident occurred) in the interaction between players.

The final thing that really irks me is that I put  down the $1600 tournament deposit for the team on Wednesday to help the coach out (his family is going away for a few weeks)and then have coach threaten to kick my kid off the team on Thursday.

So much for not making it a long rant

Hockey politics. Almost as bad as real politics.

It is worth it, for sure. I've been dealing with it basically my entire life. My Grandpa helped start a new hockey organization in the 50s/60s and coached. My dad was on the board of 2 different organizations throughout my youth career, and coached for 3 organizations. I'm now in my 16th season of reffing.

Despite all of the problems, if I win the powerball tomorrow, I'll still be very involved with amateur hockey. I love it.

Airlines make odd choices, for example:

Spokane to Bozeman should be an easy one, it's less than an hour flight and fairly close right?

First you fly to Seattle, have a 9 hour layover and then fly to Bozeman. It's like a 5-6 hour drive so it's actually faster to drive there.

Yes. I think I have things a little better outlined. Looks like the best options are Philly to Vegas, and now he's wanting to stay here for a week or so, so that's way simpler than trying to get him to the airport on time in a strange city with a whole herd of family in tow. Simplicity wins every time in my book.

Nah, nothing weird about it. Airlines make choices that they think are going to make them the most money. How many people are traveling from Spokane to Bozeman on a regular basis? What are you trying to get to in one place that you don't have in the other? Spokane and Bozeman are both pretty small, so little reason to have a direct flight. Just the nature of a hub and spoke system.

It is why I prefer flying American or United out of O'Hare. I can usually get a direct flight to just about anywhere, and if something goes wrong, there is probably another flight the same day. If I lived in Minnesota or Detroit (or Atlanta), It would be Delta.

What a "great" week...

On Sunday, I tried to take the latest project motorcycle out for a quick shakedown run before it got too close to dusk and the deer come out.

Got accosted by Suicide Bambi (tm) mid-afternoon. At least this time I had enough time for a full emergency braking maneuver (but not the evasive part) and kept it upright. Looks like the main damage is a bit of damage to the fender and the windshield. Bambi didn't make it. Hey, at least I made it two miles up the road and two miles back, and got to meet the local Klim rep (while wearing Klim gear) as the accident happened outside their house.

I've been dealing with some shoulder issues for months now, and of course the inswearance doesn't want to pay for an MRI as usual and insists on an X-ray (nope, nothing broken) and PT.

On Tuesday, therapist watches what movements I can't make and which ones I can make, and suspects an injured rotator cuff. Fortunately it doesn't look like the impediment is severe enough so it's probably not torn, but still... In the line of work I do, we tend to do diagnosis first before we try to make things worse.

Today I get a postcard from the DMV that my drivers license is expiring in the next 90 days.

Yep, end of the month qualifies as "within 90 days". Place bets if I can renew it online or have to go into the DMV to get it renewed.

It's definitely worth it. I'm not from a hockey background, but will provide support moving cones or pucks around the ice and helping on the bench during season when the coach has limited help. I recently organized a small group clinic to get some the second year bantams more work on contact, and at week 1/3 saw some improvement,  hoping to see more improvement in games by week 3/3. They goal it to make more clean contact and get away from the penalties caused by trying to imitate what they see watching the NHL.

I told my son stay clear of the coaches kid, and even if it's joking with your buddies, no trash talk on the bench.  Focus on your game and what you can do next shift to be better. If your line mates aren't passing address it by saying "I don't know if you saw, but I was open last time you brought the puck into the zone, watch for me next time, I'll be open" so no one gets offended.

Fair, although Spokane is bigger than you think. I think it's about the same as like New Orleans population wise with the valley and it is an international airport too. Not huge but definitely not small.

A little annoyed that local part stores don't stock the little tubes of silicone grease for poly bushings. Options are to order 3x 5mL tubes for $7 or an 8 oz tub for $18, the tub should set me for life.

I might have a big tub of wheel bearing grease I bought in the late 1980's.

I also have a tube of dielectric grease that I bought in the early 1980's and I used some this summer.

Finally broke down and bought a $130 wheel bearing for teh R because the left front is so bad now that it makes the sun visors rattle, and if I haven't placed a $40 Rock Auto order in the past month then I probably never will.

It's been like 70-80 and sunny for a month.  Today: 55 and raining off and on.  Volvo does not fit in the garage if I have to work on it.  Bearing replacement requires suspension disassembly because clearance reasons.

Well, I guess I brought it on myself.

I hate leaf season.  What an absolute waste of your time on earth.  I am lucky to have a zero turn so I can mulch leaves, but it's still a time suck.  My neighbor's oak tree drops leaves from September through February.
