A tube of neon yellow torque stripe just exploded in my pocket.  I put my hand in said pocket and now the inside of the pocket and my hand is covered in neon yellow splooge.  This E36 M3 is like antiseize, except brightly colored.

My intermittent insomnia issues continue. I had trouble falling asleep again last nigh. It remains about 1/week. I used to always sleep well up until a few months ago.

I've tried melatonin, magnesium, antihistamines, and trazodone. I can feel them all having an effect, but none addresses what seems to be the root cause.

Not sure what the next step is. I've got my annual physical scheduled in early January. I think I'm going to talk to the Dr. then and see if maybe I need a specialist referral or something.

Also the Station nightclub fire in RI and  Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston.

Both of which are still used as examples in the annotated version of the Life Safety Code.

Yup. Back when I was still working as volunteer convention staff since I was responsible for the largest auditorium we used in the Pru I had to go through fire safety training (online) and be certified in it, and those (including video from I believe the Station Nightclub fire) were used as examples.

Agreed to buy a car sight unseen through marketplace and was going to send a deposit. Before seller could give me his PayPal he marked it sold which I assume meant he sold it to someone else. Hey, that's no problem and I fully understand. So I sent him a follow up asking if he had sold it to someone else which I would understand no harm no foul, just wanted to check. He then left me on read twice. I gave you a friendly out to say you'd sold it but you still would rather be a chicken E36 M3 and not respond at all?

QFT.  Ive gotten used to this and sort of made peace with it, but Mrs. VCH has not, and the most recent one I had to talk her down off the berkeleying ledge she was so wound up. It's hard for us control freak type -A personalities in general to deal with those among us who fail to grasp the vagaries of time.

Agreed with everyone here wrt the end of year E36 M3 that always piles up, and those of us who are still working have to deal with.  My boss left on vacation out of the country for 2 weeks so I'm handling all his meetings for him. Had one today. I told everyone on the call, "Hey, so the next meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, the 26th. Anyone here want to have that meeting?"

Crickets.

"Ok, meetings cancelled, see y'all next year, Mr. boss man will be back then."

A friend of mine survived this fire.

Rant of the day is that all of my cars are breaking at once and it's inconvenient.  It's making me consider buying something newer and more reliable which makes me sad, I've been enjoying having no car payments.

This was me up until 6 years ago when I bought my first car. Best 327 dollars per month I've ever spent. Now it's paid off, I know every oil change and gas fill up on that car, and I'm going to drive it until it starts breaking things. Then I'm going to buy another berkeleying brand new car.

I love working on fun cars. I do not love wrenching on the daily whip.

I don't agree with you on everything, but this is one of those things. I love wrenching on something for fun. I hate lying in the driveway at 2AM in a puddle of irritation, oil, and exhaustion after work, volunteering and parenting, just to change some stupid crusty 30 year old part that I overpaid for because I needed it NOW just to rinse and repeat in a week with some other exciting disaster.

Guy I know is actually, literally, 100+ car projects deep and nearing 50. In the 15 years I've known him, I haven't seen him actually even start on any of them. That's fine, it's his money and time and everyone has their thing.

But.

He has one car I want, an 84 SVO mustang. I've made several generous offers over the last 5/6 years. He knows I'm the guy who will give the car the attention and care it needs and not simply abuse and crush it. Still won't sell.
I guess I'll just have to keep at it.

One of the secrets to The Dancer and I getting along so well is that we each essentially have our own bathroom. We used to both shower in the 'main' bathroom on floor closest to our bedroom, but when her schedule changed to such that she was regularly getting up around when I had to I moved to also showering in the bathroom next to my office on the top floor.

I got my V8 swapped e36 coupe by asking the owner "Where's that fancy BMW of yours?" *every.time.* I saw him, mostly because I had known the thrash to get it ready and money spent and it did two trips behind his motor-home then just neverreally was seen again.

One day he said "I should sell it, you be interested?"

So things may change one day. Instead of mentioning buying it, just tell him your vision of what you'd do if you owned one. Be it paint or roadtrips or working on it with kids (if you have kids of course)

On Saturday evening after we got back from loadout after the Nutcracker on the studio The Dancer works for puts on, I went out to put Bromine in the hot tub so we could soak in it only to find that it was at like 65F instead of the 98F or so it usually sits at. Some quick checking found that the ground fault disconnect was shutting down when it started to actually run (i.e., pumps & heater kicked on). It was late enough that I didn't want to deal with it then, so planned to look at it on Sunday- unfortunately that didn't work out due to sleeping in really late and a birthday party, so it got pushed off to yesterday. Wasn't thrilled at having to take time out of my work day (and eventually use 2 hours of PTO), but it was predicted to (and did) snow pretty hard (for here) and get quite cold so I needed to either get it fixed or drained before that hit.

Eventually determined that the problem was the heater- whenever it turned on the breaker would trip. OK, not wholly surprising- this hot tub is like 25 years old and the heater was likely the original one. But it meant having to quick-drain the thing in like 40-degree weather and pull the pumps and main board/heater and now I need to either replace the heater (~$200) or just replace the whole control/heater package (~$500) which despite being so much more expensive is the way I'm leaning since I've had to repair/jury-rig the original setup to much over the last few years to keep it running (and if I'm feeling particularly spendy, there's a WiFi add-on that you can check & adjust things from your phone). But it also means no using the hot tub until at least after New Years- and hoping that I drained it well enough that nothing freezes and breaks...

Understood. Our house is barely 1000sf and only has the one bathroom. Had I known then what I know now, I would have either started shopping earlier or held out for something that had more headroom built in, but here we are, and with the market the way it's been pretty much ever since we bought 15 years ago, we're not in a position to move up. It's theoretically possible to turn our single bathroom into one and a half, with the new half bath off the hallway and the master bath w/tub accessed from a bedroom, but I don't dare start another project.

Apparently there is a critter in the wall in my living room. There are infrequent, light scratching noises that my wife and I can both hear.  One of my new kittens is also fascinated by the sounds.

I'm not sure what my next step should be.

We still have Halloween candy staring down at us from it's throne on top of the refrigerator, and last weekend Mrs. VCH took it upon herself to bake 27,000 calories worth of Christmas cookies.  Last night she told me "Take them to work with you".  We're having a Christmas party today, which will be catered, with food from a local Italian restaurant that's known for it's cookie cakes.  Yeah.

In the last 24 hours, I've gotten two messages from recruiters asking me to move to very random cities in the US for a lateral position with no relocation expenses.

Are you even listening to yourself? So you really think I'm going to pack up my life to move to Dog Patch, Nebraska for your E36 M3 job for E36 M3 pay?

This is the story of my job hunt for the last 4-5 years.  Tons of emails for jobs, but they are all for like 1/2 my salary.  Do they even look at how many years I have been doing my job?

We need someone with 2-5 years experience in <enter IT or AI/ML skill/tech here>.

Location: On-site in the middle of nowhere near where you live

Hourly range: I know you make way more than this, but can you slum it for me because you have <IT skill>.

Length of term: Barely long enough for you to relocate and then we are done with you.  Maybe an extension or convert to full ti.....  HAHAHAHA. I couldn't keep the straight face any longer.

All I need is your social, phone, and blood type and I'll submit you because you are taking this job.
