I feel for you.

When I was much younger, the company I worked for had 3-4 medium-duty flatbed trucks. They were bought just after GM moved to disk brakes on the rear axle. The rear brakes had so much grab they were almost impossible to drive empty. Between the back of the truck skipping across every pebble and bump in the road and the rear brakes locking up if you breathed on the pedal they were terrible unless they had 4k-5k pounds on the back.

Ugh.

Fortunately the ads seemed to have died down here in NY, but there was a phase where you couldn't go 5 berkeleying minutes without hearing the phrase "Same-game parlay"

99% of the plumbing in our home is PEX or ABS. WTF did they add a random cast iron piece here and there? The latest problem is a clean out in the garage. It leads to a vent on the roof and the main drain line for the house. Our water softener drains into this clean out though a fitting on the cap. So, for the last 20 years this chunk of cast iron has had a weekly salt water shower. It finally cracked and leaked into our downstairs bathroom. Fortunately it only ruined the MDF floor board molding inside the house. The plumber had to cut a 12"x16" hole in the drywall and ply sheathing on the garage side. I get to patch it all up. This is about the 5th plumbing or water leak we've had int he last few years. I really, really hate repairing drywall, matching texture and painting.

Lots of reasons, but probably the Three Tier System is the central culprit.

Well, once again, the roads were almost clean. Once again, we got a 1/2" of snow and the state of New York felt it necessary to salt the ever-living bejeezus out of the road.

A couple years ago we were on one of our Niagara falls/cross the border trips and I decided to pick up a transmission from a wrecker in Erie. Our timing was near perfect. It started snowing early morning while we were still sleeping in the Falls, so when we crossed the border it was in full swing. It was snowing hard, but nothing crazy, we didn't think. But it took us hours to get from Niagara to Erie, there were almost no plows out, roads were closing,  stores were closing, and the steak house we'd reserved also closed.  I commuted in weather like that for 20 years and it was never more than a minor nuisance, but the trip from Erie to Niagara and back took us over six hours.

Rant: I just did a top end on one of my bikes. I ordered the base gasket from a company in England. With inexpensive commonwealth shipping rates I could have two to my door for the cost of one from the dealer, who didn't seem all that interested in bringing one in for me, anyway.

Their listing was wrong and I got the wrong gaskets. So I informed him of that, and he promptly dispatched two more... incorrect gaskets. So I gave him a chance which he appeared to ignore, and I left a scathing review. The next day he apologized and said he'd send the correct ones. After two weeks I gave up and ordered one from a different dealer, who, after two follow ups eventually brought one in and shipped it. In the meantime the two arrived from England and they were correct this time. The next day I got the dealer gasket and they sent the wrong thickness...

It really shouldn't be that difficult to get a simple gasket for a common bike.

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep having an equal vote on what's for dinner.

America is a Representative Republic, though many have either forgotten that, or never learned.  Not surprising since civics are barely mentioned in government schools these days.

When I see/hear the word "democracy" in the "news", this is what usually comes to mind:

I will change those inventory tracking sheets on MY schedule, not your's. They are for MY records, so that I can do quarterly gov't report of operations. I will take them down and replace them after I've done the quarterly inventory. That doesn't always happen on the 1st of the month, because it doesn't need to, and I'm busy.

Yes. You need to mark product moved on the sheet even if the last month on it is "March" and it's now April 4th. I explain this to you EVERY QUARTER. Mark units moved on the sheet that is currently up.

If you need a tracking system for yourself, put together your own tracking system.

If you are an shiny happy person to my people they are instructed to pack their tools, hand you my business card, and leave. I pay them to repair your doors, not put up with your attitude or BS. Then you can call me and explain why you are being a dick to the people who work for me. The odds are very high that I'm going to tell you to berkeley off and call someone else. We are busy enough working for decent people that we don't need to deal with E36 M3ty customers.

Wtf is with the used machinery prices in this province?

Every used lathe I find is within a couple hundred bucks of the price of a new machine!

And the new machine isn't a first-generation, imported copy of an Australian copy of a Southbend. It's a for-real, well supported import machine with modern tooling and a warranty!

Good grief, people are idiots if they actually pay that much.

Also, f-you to the previous owner of my big MIG welder.

It's been feeding poorly and figured it needed a liner.

Took the parts guy at the welding shop and I 30 minutes to figure out the cobbled together mess of incorrect parts in my gun.

New liner, new diffuser, correct tips and correct nozzle, it works like a charm now.

First world minor rant: Chevrolet recommends a "dexos2" rated oil for the C8. The parts stores around here don't carry them yet. I stopped by the dealership and bought two quarts of Mobil 1 Supercar at $17.99 EACH. I guess I need to order it from the river next time.

Update: Holy smokes! It's $28.99 a quart at the river. A six pack is a little more reasonable at $58.99 though.
