Why do people spend so much time videoing a live show vs just enjoying it?  We are on vacation, and have been at a lot of show- every one, people are videoing the show as if watching it again is just like seeing it live. These shows are done more than once- see it more than once.

The worse part is the morons who don't know the light is on, which we are told many times to not do that for the safety of the performers. They are doing a hard act that is dangerous already.

Trying to get registered for classes. I'm reminded why I have always breathed such a huge sigh of relief after each semester I've completed. I had an appointment scheduled for today for academic advising. I signed up for email AND text reminders, and they were to send me a link for zoom because there are no in-person appointments anymore. Here we are, two hours past the scheduled appt, and crickets. Nothing. Can't get anyone on the phone. Stuck at work so I can't get over there in person to actually make a human actually talk to me.

spring semester starts in a few weeks and so far I can't really make any progress.

I'll trade you advisors.  Mine is constantly trying to get me to set up meetings with her.  I've been ignoring her since the first time.  I finally made an appointment and she kicked it off with asking me what I wanted to talk about and didn't seem to understand at all when I replied that I didn't want to talk about anything - she had been hounding me for a month to set up a meeting!

I live on a dirt road and while it is maintained by the county, it's actually " maintained" by the county.

The road finally got graded but before then well...... remember The Tank Trap? Not so bad but nearly as unpassable. Literally pot holes over a foot deep in clusters of hundreds all over the road. I was crawling along at idle or lower the whole 5 ish miles.

So guess who just replaced yet another upper ball joint? This guy! Last one was just under a year ago.

The silver lining is it came out pretty easy since it's been barely in there very long.

Hell, why even go anywhere? 1,000s of people have already been there, taking better pictures.  Just order the souvenirs of Amazon and never leave your apartment. wink

Not enough residents along the "road" to pool their resources and get an old motor grader?

I live on a much shorter section of gravel road and 4 of the 7 of us have tractors. 3 of us informally rotate on trying to fill the potholes.

Actually sort of the opposite, it's got 50-ish families on it and if you do some work yourself, they will arrest you.

Chris Rock was doing a performance at a Christmas party for billionaire Anthony Pratt this week when he saw someone in the audience recording the show with his phone, so he walked off the stage in the middle of a joke and left.  Apparently it's more and more common for performers to have explicit rules banning and recording, and in some cases people have to stow their phones in special signal blocking bags before they can enter the theater.

When rants are profitable.

I record what I do on my project Falcon mostly for myself and the 300 or so other guys who own one. My hopelessly slipping V belt was the result of some budget 'underdrive' pulleys that came on my engine. So I decided to rant about them. And then I didn't stop there. I was having fun while espousing some 'get off my lawn' opinion.

I don't know what YouTube did, but I got 30,000 views in a week. I think I paid for my new NOS crank pulley the first day. Apparently there is a market for old men complaining about car stuff. Who knew?

Thinking about that, it's kind of a sad thing that YT makes money on people ranting vs doing work on the same vehicle. We are entertained by angry people, apparently.

People are mad because Air Canada wants to charge for carry on baggage.

Good.

This is because of those twats who try to cram their whole trip into the overhead compartment.

Carry-on is a pain in the ass, just check your damn luggage. The airline almost never loses it and if they do, your credit card probably covers lost luggage.

I travel enough that my carry-on is my laptop and maybe a book. If my luggage goes missing, there's a credit card in my wallet. If you're that frightened of it getting lost, don't pack stuff that you're not comfortable losing. It's just clothes and a shave kit.

That's an interesting question, I see that a lot. I don't really do that as much as I take too many pics on vacation, roughly 100% of which I eventually delete.  But pre-smartphone I never took any.  I would bet most of those videos are deleted shortly after as well.
We've had quite a few resort type vacations, and I've not been shy about how bad I thought most of the entertainment is. Small sample size but from what I've seen, post Covid that looks like it's changing

Counterpoint: If they didn't charge for the checked bag in the first place, would there be as much carry-on luggage?  I always prefer to check my bag, but if it's going to cost me an extra fifty bucks for the round trip, then guess who's going to make it the flight attendants' problem?

You've never had your luggage lost, apparently. We switched to carry on only after a few incidents of getting them lost, one was two weeks late getting home, the other almost missed a ship we were heading to. It's not as simple as using your credit card- you need to spend a few thousand for a few weeks worth of all your clothes, including underwear; suitcases, and all of your other supplies that you checked.

Let alone that you get charged to check a bag. Which makes no sense, as the bag handlers work regardless, and the weight is carried regardless.

If they are charging for both checked and carry on, just freaking raise the price. Unless they really think people don't use luggage. Stupid.
