Per time? Humans have this pesky habit of doing other things, and the whole underpinning of Lyft/Uber/etc is that they're nominally a side hustle (not that this is actually the case).
Also, what area does Waymo serve? Does every time-consuming longer drive get done by humans? Five ten-block local hops is not five times as much work as five trips from Pier 39 to SFO. (Just peeked and they either do or will apparently soon serve SFO, but it doesn't answer the question of what's actually happening on the ground; how much of Waymo's business is short-hop "robotaxi tourism?")
It's a pretty staggering set of numbers, but it feels like someone wants me to draw a conclusion and we're going a bit "lies, damned lies, and statistics..."
I still think it's amazing tech, and I still think we'll get there, but I also am infuriated at the price we're all paying to the folks who are rolling out pre-beta stuff for research and market share.

When I hit that situation, I do nothing for everyone.
Suddenly, maybe you were doing a lot more than realized.
It's a solid idea

The washer is malfunctioning. There's some sort of clutch and rotor assembly on the bottom of it that I suspect may be the problem. The clutch thing is supposed to be round, but it's more oblong. I'm guessing that it got bent out of shape from being overloaded and then just kept wearing funny. The OEM parts were about $350, so I went with knock-off Amazon parts for $90. Hopefully this fixes it.
I've been using the same weather app on my Android phones. I paid for the premium version probably a decade ago. This evening when I opened it to check the weather, I was greeted by this screen:
I did just get a new phone a couple of weeks ago but I've used this app probably a dozen times on the new phone with no issues.
Whatever, it was only like a dollar the last time I bought it. So I click on the "Buy App" button.
Yeah, no, you can berkeley right off. There are a thousand other weather apps out there.

It was after ebay bought them. Bloody shame. Backwards into the future.

eBay never bought Craigslist. Craig newmark is still the majority owner and always was. eBay bought out a former owner that had 25% of the business. eBay sold its stake back to the Craigslist owners in 2015. Which I believe was prior to Craigslist charging for car listings. Charging for listings was an attempt to eliminate the hundred duplicates of the same listing and the dealers posting in the owner for sale section.
We haven't had a weekend without precipitation since November 16th/17th. We're headed into June and literally every day is 45 and rainy. I'm tired of this E36 M3.

My garage leaks heavily. Patrick says it'll be an easy fix to run new roll roofing over it. I can't paint the walls or move anything into the garage until the leak is fixed.

I stand corrected. It's still a shame. Facebook's product is inferior in a number of ways, yet I still go there more often because of the greater volume.
The saga of getting my work laptop upgraded so I can work much more efficiently is so close to being over... but still so far. After confirming that Yes, there will be someone there today who can do the upgrade and ship it back to me so I'd only really be without it today (which is fine, it's a nice day and I can use it to try and get the Escape back together), I went and dropped the laptop at FedEx yesterday to overnight it to our main plant. Only to have them tell me, "Oh, our last pick up was a few minutes ago, so it won't go out until tomorrow (today/Thursday) and get there on Friday." When there won't be anyone working at the plant because of our 4/10 schedule (and, apparently, nobody in the IT department working the B schedule where they're off on Mondays instead of Fridays which is- like everything else in this saga- idiotic).
So now they won't get the laptop until tomorrow- and will (though I think they forgot about it, since IT emailed me that the tracking was showing it wouldn't arrive until Friday so they couldn't work on it until Monday) presumably also be off on Monday for the holiday. So they won't get the upgrade done until Tuesday and (assuming they get it to FedEx on time) I won't get it back until sometime Wednesday. Which means I'll be working using the remote access system on at least Tuesday- but at least I finished up everything that required all the files actually on the laptop and what I should be working on next week will initially just be looking things up in reports that are all accessible online.
Once again- none of this would have happened if a) they'd just given us analysts who ALWAYS need a lot of space to run analyses computers with remotely decently-sized drives in the first place or b) realized that my computer would need to be shipped back to them for the upgrade when I first put the request in over 2 months ago and arranged for me to ship it back when I was out on vacation for a whole week at the beginning of April.
I'm not sure what is more frustrating at this point- working with our IT department or working on the Escape and its cursed 1.6 Ecoboost.

Agreed there 100%!! I still love Craigslist and miss the days when it was the default online listing platform for everyone. Facebook sucks and the marketplace is terrible.

Remember when Photobucket tried that?

I just waited 30 minutes on hold to be 4th in line... when my phone died
I swear, every time I shut off the boiler for maintenance, something goes wrong when I try to turn it on and run it.
Replaced some gaskets yesterday. Turned it on and it was running fine. Everything looked fine when I came in this morning.
Turn on the steam to heat up our water tank. It ran for about an hour without any problems. Then the boiler started overflowing and belching water all over the floor.
Shut it off. Drain a bit of water. Turn in on - nothing.
Okay, probably faulting out because the water level is too high. So drain it down to just under the minimum water level where it should call water. Turns on... and doesn't call water. Something wrong with the pump? If I cycle the power on the boiler, the pump will kick on a bit, and I can see the volume level rise. So that's not it.
The power light is on and the "Alarm" light is off. It just won't ignite. No idea what is wrong. Looking at the manual, it just looks like it's sitting in "Ready" mode not doing anything. This is frustrating.
Sure you're all beef caked up, you know everyone in the gym is watching you because, well, you're you; but if you can dead lift a small car or curl two full tool boxes, can't you just set them down again? Why actually not drop, but push the thing into the ground from a great height? Maybe it's the headphones ....
The parts I replaced in the washer definitely needed to be replaced. But it appears that they were a casualty, not a cause. Looks like the transmission needs to be replaced.

Called back and waited 25 minutes to be transferred and waited another 25 minutes for the answer.
Guess who I no longer do business with.
I often have a win/rant balance and today once again I'll be making deposits in both accounts.
Over here in rants, I think the $700 special inspection contractor is going to eat the last savings (if there were any in the first place) for building the shop's awning myself, but at least I get the stress of having a pro inspector come look at my welds.
Working on 240Z brakes. Need the brake pad spray - you know the deal. Go buy a can. Shouldn't this be in my stable already?
Dangit - I did have some. This product will outlive me.......
I came back to work after a week long vacation. It's been a week. Just wow!
Tasks that I handed off, over a two weeks ago, prior to vacation are still incomplete. Parts that should be shipping back to us from final machining are still sitting in the shop.
Did I mention that my new manager started while I was on vacation? Now I'm tasked with writing procedural updates due to the "holes in our processes". Irony, the only reason we have any procedures at all is that I started writing them... I was really hoping the new manager would take the lead on that. Having someone other than the man in the mirror tell me it needs more detail really isn't very helpful.
It's been a great week.

Well, look on the bright side, now you can work on both the driver and passenger sides of the car.
