Woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I padded downstairs to feed the dogs, have some coffee, and veg out in front of my computer or something. Discovered my middlest daughter was also already awake so she fed the dogs, I made coffee, and we played board and card games for about an hour and a half while watching the sunrise through the kitchen windows.
Got to visit briefly with Quasi Mofo hisself and check out his truck and trailer. QM stepping up his game for sure.
11GTCS said:Not completely my win but related! My son successfully defended his masters thesis in urban planning today to the college of architecture at Texas A&M. This was accompanied by him getting a reply to a job application this morning with a request for an interview next week. Cart before horse but it’s in a great little town only a couple of hours from us. We are wicked proud and excited. Slightly related, we will all be fully vaccinated by early May so we’ll be able travel and attend graduation. A lot of hard work on his part is paying off and I had to share the good news.
Update and the win continues! He had the interview earlier today and was offered the job a couple of hours later. So proud / grateful/ relieved.
One of my techs sent a picture this weekend of a John Bean System system V tire machine sitting outside the Canadian Tire store with a "for sale" sign, $600. It is about five years old, has the extra wheel equipped arm to help install those hateful 30 series tires, and the table won't turn. How bad could it be? Pretty common unit, the guys that work as tire busters at CT are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, and I've spilled $600 in way worse ways than this.
Took it apart today, got the gearbox out, and it was pretty much what I expected. In a shop where guys are paid to clean, but not really to know what you shouldn't wash with the garden hose, the top bearing in the gearbox was seized up almost solid. So, a couple of hours worth of time, a 6010 2rs bearing, I have a better tire machine, and I can probably sell my similarly aged System IV for $2500 in about fourty seconds.
Our upstairs smoke detector kept beeping for no apparent reason. SWMBO googled smoke detector issues and low and behold the first search site she is on is here.

WD40 is better for cleaning shop equipment, anyway.
Today's win: 24h after getting my second Pfizer injection, I feel like total crap. That means my immune system took the bait!
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
Took about 25 hours for it to hit me full-force after The Dancer and I got our second shots. Spent most of yesterday afternoon asleep in bed under the blankets- but at least we know it was working!
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
Got my second shot on Tuesday morning, and was starting to feel some effects that night. I spent yesterday mostly tired and wanting to sleep, but unable to sleep. I scheduled the day off work, just in case, and it seems that was a good idea.
Immediately after getting my second Pfizer, I jumped in the truck and drove 4 hours roundtrip to Indy and back. Later that evening though, my left foot was in massive pain and my toes turned all sorts of shades of black and blue.
I'm sure it had nothing to do with me launching myself like a human cannonball across the shop. It was totally the vaccine.
Seriously though, other than a slightly sore arm, I wound up with zero side effects. It kicked my wife's ass and a buddy wound up sleeping for 30 hours, but I got nothing.
Numerous major win posts in a row about getting the vaccine in the minor win threads. Major, major win.
In reply to mtn :
Yeah- The Dancer and I noted a surprising number of friends and acquaintances who all got their second vaccine shot on Tuesday, was nice to see.

Thanks again, by the way, for your daily/weekly infodump about a year back. It was very insightful.

My vaccine is your fault.
I just found out to my delight that the forum updates let you intersperse replies into a quoted thing without berking the formatting right up. That's awesome!

They're not charging us the standard "cook and prep on site" fee to cater the wedding. Which means we're feeding the wedding for well under a grand.

DW and I have both been sporting the J&J one-hit wonder for at least 3 weeks now. Minor side effects for about the 24-36 hours following vaccination.

It's like $690.** for a kielbasa stuffed pig, 2 pans of mac n cheese, pan of coleslaw, pan of salad, and utensils I'm pretty sure. Figure another $100 for pop and water, BYOB, and this wedding E36 M3 is cheap.
In reply to RevRico :
Sounds like about how I did my wedding. Well played. Now, don't do any of the other E36 M3 involved with my marriage and you're golden.
In reply to RevRico :
That's great!
We found a local delivery to do our wedding, they did steaks and chicken for 40 people with sides for 900 or so I think and we felt like we got a deal. And that's 40 steaks and 40 chickens
I'm taking a few off to play with the race car. It was fast yesterday, finished 6th and didn't break anything. All we have to do for tonight is wash it and make sure nothing came loose and the next track is only an hour from here so we're sitting in rockers out front of Cracker Barrel waiting for lunch.
