My $7 Inland headphones broke exactly right after Micro Center closed. Popped the volume dongle apart and easily found the fault, a wire broke off where it was soldered to the board.
Soldering iron's at work.
Utilizing a paper clip and a gas stove, I was able to re-solder it.
I started a new job two months ago, and in that two months have attended two company supported golf outings. The problem has been, I don't own golf clubs. I borrowed a set from a coworker the first time and borrowed one club at a time from my group the second time. It felt a little unprofessional, but I'm earlier in my career and I figured that I could look into getting some clubs on black Friday.
Well, just last week a got a meeting notice for some "Spherical Impact Testing" near the end of September. Well, crap. Off to Google. A new set of golf clubs costs WHAT?!?! And they aren't made of gold at that price?! Rediculous.
My minor win: I searched for golf clubs on Craigslist, found a decent set with bag and balls for $60 and I can stop by on my way home from work. Shut up and take my money! Turns out this retiree buys delinquent storage units and sells the contents as a hobby. Works for me and my current level of skills and dedication to golf. They just need a little cleaning.

Hm. "Cougar" brand golf bag. Cat immediately sniffs the bag's butt.
Coincidence?
My contract wasn't renewed last Friday because I refused to work for the office manager.
Stood my ground even though it meant I wouldn't have a job. So the weekend was kind of long.
Yesterday (Monday) I get a call from the company I quit before the contract job wanting me back. AND I get a call from another company wanting me to interview for positions coming open soon.
I slept very well last night.
Apparently I'm getting paid for the 3 days of work I had to miss because of my hand. I was ready to just eat the lost hours but ok that works too.
Kid#2 passed his college math placement test so he can take pre-cal at community college this fall. Did that yesterday. Today he passed his drivers test and got his full license. Two big checks in the W column in two days.
The steering column bearings may have sucked, but I got away with shifter bushings "while I was in there!" It feels so good, and it took virtually no extra time and added $7 to the parts tab.
Clear coat over the epoxy looks pretty awesome:
And now I can start putting stuff in the building.
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
Thanks. I swapped out the blue tone flecks for red tone ones because it is a red and white building and for being a quickie job done cheaply I'm pretty pleased with the results. All told this is an $800 floor in a 24x60 building, so you can't expect greatness, but it should at least make oil leaks easier to clean up.
I have 41 billable hours sold that have to be done by Friday, 5:30.
Yesterday was awesome. I went into the city to shop for office/cowork space to get out of the house. One of my favorites would have me looking out over the river.
I've been wanting to get my glasses adjusted at Warby Parker and to try shopping at an Amazon Go store. I set my destination to the nearest Warby Parker, and when I arrived:
I also got to try a ride share scooter. The Segway-Ninebot ES4 derived Lyft scooter was a hoot, but a mix of unfamiliarity and fear of getting doored were still there. The main brakes are pretty weak and require lots of planning ahead. I could totally see owning one of my own if I choose an office that has me commuting by train on the regular.

After 8 weeks of waiting, the cement is finally going in in front of the new garage
Tonight we discovered a place that does ice cream sandwiches with your choice of ice cream on your choice of cookie or donut.

mmmmm donut...mmmmm ice cream...mmmmm cookie...
On my annual Vintage Dualsport campout I took a pretty heavy digger at speed and simultaneously got my left leg caught under the bike while the bars kindly removed all the air from my lungs. My left foot momentarily pointed exactly the wrong direction while I came to rest in a ball of dust, blood, and butt sweat. Been taking it easy and staying off all motorized- and human-powered two wheel locomotion for the last 3 weeks.
Just went out on the old Raleigh Sports for the first time since, and after a few blocks of occasional clicking, my knee loosened up and felt great. Currently 99% sure I didn't destroy the inside of my knee!

Cleaning up blood from busted knuckles might be a little harder. But that's pretty damn good looking.

Got my 1H bonus check last week which means we can write a check for the remaining 10 months of tuition for my elementary kids and be done with that monthly expense for the next year. Right after that, I used the new IRS withholding calculator to determine that if I continued without changes, I would be getting a 4-5k refund check so I altered withholding which increases my monthly net significantly. Both of those things combine to take a giant load of stress off of me. We were seriously trying to figure out how we were going to make this all work and which organs we would sell on the black market but suddenly everything is completely fine.
In the two years I've had the quadrasteer 'burb the QS system hasn't been all that it should be. It would turn itself off after 1-30 minutes and not turn back on until I shut off the truck and restarted it. Recently I replaced the ball joints and front wheel bearing assemblies (deferred maintenance stuff).
Not only does it ride better and feel safer but the bad signal from the hub is fixed and now my ABS and QS work perfectly!
In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :
I really wanted one of the QS trucks when they came out, but I wanted a long bed (8') and they didn't make that.
I just scored one of these for under $100.
Noticed while looking out through the window of the restaurant I'm in that my truck has the spare tire under it. I hadn't even thought to look yet.
Come on, let's get 100 pages of wins! It's sad the rants are over 1000.
My win: I made it home last night without a functioning alternator.
I finally got the new sound system fully working in the miata. Sounds so good!
In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :
I always wanted to drive a quadrasteer truck since I found out they existed. The first magazine article I read about quadrasteer hyped it up like crazy.
