I've never liked Verizon. This just about takes the cake.

Don't blame verizon, they're just a corporation, and greed is a given. Blame legislators and the courts.

verizon just sued to have the law followed. and the law says the FCC doesnt have the same purview over internet service providers.

petition the law to be changed if you dont like it...

Pretty much, basically it seemed as though the court just told the FCC, you can do it, just not the way you tried to.....try again.

Well, yeah. The only complaints I've heard about the whole deal is from the sort of people who think everyone should have unlimited access to all the internet for free, so I've never really managed to figure out exactly what the big deal is for the everyday kind of person. If somebody would like to edumacate me about how its not just a right wing conspiracy to prevent the future of the progressive movement blah blah blah I'd be happy to hear from you.

Used to be it was you bought so much service and used it however you pleased.

Now there is nothing stopping an ISP from saying "Oh we don't deal with netflix traffic anymore unless you pay the netflix fee"(then they introduce a competing streaming video service of their own). Or "Your ping times are now throttled to 1000ms without the gaming package" etc.

You also don't typically have a choice in internet provider, making this even more of a problem.

It's either that or regulate the internet. I'm pretty sure most people on here LOVE gov't regulation in any form

I can see the internet 2.0 being created by hackers using WiFi to connect everyone. All equipment will be solar powered. Since it operates in the ungoverned space in the 2.4 ghz range, you can pretty much do what you want, until you're creating interference with other devices.
