my dad worked with a lady who was killed that way. somehow she went off the road and perfectly balanced the car on one of the big-ass cables they use to support the old-school wooden utility poles. perfectly balanced until she opened the door and tried to step out.

Here on the edge of Lake Ontario in Upstate NY (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse) Everybody was in panic mode, "Severe Storm Warnings, that will make the Abominable Snowman cry like a little girl with a skinned knee" .... and we basically got buppkiss ! (Not that I'm complaining !)

Not a aton of snow here in my part of the Colorado high country - 14 inches new, 73 so far this winter - but this is the coldest air mass I've seen in my 12 years here - 26 below this morning. Today's high was minus 4. I was out there shoveling my driveway a little wider than the neighbor had plowed it, and after half an hour thought, "you're 65 years old, it's 5 below, you're retired, you don't have to go anywhere for a couple of days - YOU FOOL!" and went inside, tossed another log on the fire, and curled up with a good book.
