I heard about that on the local news earlier.
It good to know that there are selfless people out there in the sea of selfishness
Not to take anything away from what she did, but she wasn't competing at that point. Her decision may well have been different if she was still competing for a medal.
I like the fact that she could have been disqualified for doing that.. but wasn't. Somebody there is not a rules monger

Where's the High school nazi principal beatch when you need her. Rules were broken here!
In reply to spitfirebill:
Who cares if they get disqualified or not? They came in last. I think it was one of those moral victory type things, not a desire to officially finish in last place.
The coach said, "She chose to help. I've never seen that at a state meet."
Not to take anything away from what Meghan did, but... why hasn't the coach seen sportsmanship like that at LOTS of state meets?? Maybe the coach and his peers should re-evaluate their coaching style.
Oh, and, Meghan: good for you. Have something involving chocolate and put it on my tab.

Dude, she's not here. She can't hear you.
I made the unfortunate decision to listen to the bloated windbag Rush Limbaugh during lunch yesterday. He was trying to connect Meghan's actions to a lack of competitive spirit in the U.S. (due to the Dems of course)
Callers were chiming in saying this is a sign of our county's weakness. It reminded me never to listen to that asshat (Rush) again.
Those people are idiots. Kudos on her for doing a selfless act to help another.
Yeah, I know she's not here. I don't actually have a tab, either. But if I DID have the pleasure of knowing that young lady, I would definitely be convincing her to break training and have some ice cream or something, on me.

Having run track probably the reason you don't see that is because by the end of the race you about to collapse. By the last 100 meters of a 3200, I was always about to collapse and my brain was completely shut down. I don't think I could have thought to myself I am going to help this person at the end of the race. I am impressed she had enough fitness and kindness to think to herself I am going to help this person and then actually do it.

He said something about it having to do with missing "hard manliness" in this country, whatever the berkeley that is. What an overweight out of shape windbag drug addict knows about "hard manliness" can't be measured with a micrometer or a gram scale. He should stay out of subjects he knows nothing about, but then he would have to take a vow of silence.
I need to start calling into Rush. I don't listen, but this really makes me want to call in and be a total troll on his show.
What this girl did seriously made my day. Not enough high school kids have this kind of camaraderie and sense of helping a fellow competitor. Maybe there's some hope for the future.
The decision of the governing committee also warms my tiny little heart. I feel that it speaks volumes about them as decent humans as well.

I was thinking the exact opposite. People have become ultra competitive at most things, from being first on line at McDonald's to fist fighting over parking spaces. When someone goes out of their way to do what's right it becomes news because many people can't remember the last time the saw it.

If you are so much better than him why aren't more successful? Or half as successful?

You'll be outgunned. I don't care how good you really are, he's better.

I'm more successful than him. Oh, you meant richer? Sorry, I don't measure success in dollars, though I have plenty of those for my needs.
Also, I'm not clear on where I said I was better than him. I don't think I am, I just think he's wrong. I don't have to be better than someone to state the obvious. In fact the entire idea of being "better" than someone is anathema to me and it shows a lot about your mindset that you think it.
