I'm looking to build some beach wheels for my catamaran. Like these:

The tires are 21x12-8 and the blue plastic wheels are around 20". Rather than spending $500-600, I think I can build one cheaper. The wheels are available separately for $72 per.
So, anyone have a kid's Power Wheels to measure? I don't think the wheels are 20" tall. Old ATV balloon tires are also under consideration. Weight is a big factor - lighter is better.
I am as big of a cheapskate as there ever was, and a Hobie 16 sailor...
Guys in my fleet, including me, have all tried various things to build cheap cat trax.. All of them ended up spending half as much or more money for something that didn't work quite as good.
Power wheels tires are going to be way to small...
Sell something, or spend some extra time at work and focus on spending more time on the water!!! You know you would rather be on the water than cussing while trying to figure out how to make homebrew cattrax work
Where are you at? Have you hooked up with your local Hobie Fleet?
I live near the western coast of West Virginia, but am from the Wilmington NC/ Conway SC area and sail there. We had a Sol Cat 18 with cat trax, sold it. I bought a Hobie 16 Thursday - no cat trax. Also no sailing clubs here.
I'm looking for a non comptip mast too. Any leads?
Check with any of the fleets close to you..

Or try the Hobie Forum.. Just because there isn't a fleet at your back door doesn't mean there isn't someone close.
You will find "The Hobie Way of Life" is filled with AWESOME folks...
In fact Look on the HCANA website.. I think Carol McViegh is the Division 11 chair. Rich is the International Hobie Class President. They are both awesome people... Shoot them an email...
