I have a CC permit. What good would it do if I pulled a gun in a crowd of 150 bikers, half of whom were probably also carrying? That is a certain death sentence.

+1

If they are like the bikers that party in the woods around here, rather than a beat down, there wouldn't have been a body to find.

Hey, man, thanks for the invite... and for not telling me it was a hardcore biker party in BFE instead of a family-fun Oktoberfest in town.

You want to get dissolved in a vat of meth production waste? Because that's probably a good way to make that happen.

You could go all western and shout how they will get you, but not before you get one of them, and aim at the lead fat lawyer/Biker.

In my travels as a motorcycle racer, I of course ran across quite a few of these. I learned quickly that their egos are easily bruised for reasons incomprehensible to the 99% and instead of handling it like grownups their first instinct is 'kick some butt'. No thank you. I have better things to do.

The thing is that, as mentioned above, there is no reason today for them to weird out over pics. In this day of teh 'puter, we are all photographed by The Man 1000x a day. They have access to our driver's license photo, facial recognition software, etc. These guys probably don't even know why they are against someone taking their photo. It goes back to the 60's-80's, basically pre-computer daze, when The Man would go around taking pics of biker gangs to ID who's in them. They probably still do in some events, like the Waco incident a few months ago, but not like back pre-computer when they would sneak someone in to take pics at events like this. I would GUESS that the current crop of 1%'ers just know that they are supposed to freak out and threaten to beat anyone that takes their pic without asking real nice first. And any excuse to beat the E36 M3 out of someone is a good excuse in those circles.

I went to street vibes a few years ago and I guess there was a cat house poker run outside of carson city. At the cat house there was gang interdiction officers taking pictures of the 1% three patch guys.

I went on a 1% poker run and the thing was a cop magnet, I don't understand why anyone would want to broadcast that they are outlaw bikers because if you are for realz you are in for real time. Hurt little boys hiding behind tattoos and leather jackets. If you are around criminals they don't trust anyone who isn't one of them, birds of a feather kind of thing. Real criminals wear brooks brothers, not biker brothers.

Although I agree with you, part of their desire for secrecy may be because of "the man" being so present. When they get out in the woods away from prying eyes they don't want their community exposed or known. Kinda like fraternal order.

But, I agree... its pretty dumb and excessive.

Agree times a million. I like to think I am a chameleon and can fit in anywhere, but the whole misogynist tough-guy thing just makes me want to vomit. It doesn't show individual thinking. Its just like a bunch of people with anger management issues who found each other so that they can legitimize their violence.

Not all, of course, but the ones like I encountered.

One Percenter, a term for a member of an outlaw motorcycle club derived from the statement "99% of motorcyclists are law-abiding citizens."

The patches and other stuff is explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlaw_motorcycle_club

The 1% thing is in reference to an alleged quote from the AMA claiming that 99% of motorcyclists were decent and law abiding citizens, and implying that the remaining 1% were outlaws.

EDIT: Need to be quicker, apparently.

Glad you didn't die, and thanks for the timely post--Biketoberfest starts Wednesday here in Daytona, and I need to remember not to engage these shiny happy people. Or anyone else, for that matter. I'm trying to grow up, but it's a process.

I mean, I'd do it if I was otherwise going to die - or close, but I agree that it didn't seem likely to help Curtis in his situation.

Also, most places, drinking beer and carrying weapons is illegal.

Curtis, glad to see you alive, still.
