Could one of the mods rename this thread to "revs bathroom remodel" or something and also move it to the build thread section? Please and thank you.

There must be some way to slow the constant flow of canoes, like requiring manual approval of new accounts. I realize I'm volunteering someone else for extra work here but it might be less headache overall than constantly squashing these roaches.

I have also bookmarked a few websites that can be extremely helpful in rapidly confirming whether an account belongs to a spammer. Mods, feel free to PM me and I'll pass them along.

Bumping this in case it got overlooked.

We are constantly treading the knife's-edge between keeping the forums clean and keeping the bar to entry very low, because unlike a lot of forums that are okay being semi-closed conversations, we want--need--lots of new blood and traffic.. Our current setup requires just a few minutes of spam cleanup on a heavy day; unfortunately we also sleep, so that cleanup happens when the first mods get up, meaning the earliest forum users may also see the overnight spam. (It was awesome when I was in Europe a couple weeks ago.)

Think of the 7 a.m. shift here as being like early satellite TV owners: While most viewers never saw what happened when the news cut to commercial, those early satellite viewers got to see Tom Brokaw drinking his water and shooting the E36 M3. Only, you know, with ladies of the night in the Tom Brokaw role. (And apologies for the intrusions.)

Also, interesting to note that ads arrived in force as soon as I used the term for these ladies that is also a Ford model. We've already scrubbed tags using the word. Gonna look at filters next.

Understood. My suggestions are based on some things I've found useful in moderating another (different and smaller). Please let me know if I can be of any use to you.

You say that like they are mutually exclusive.  Are there not rules that could be implemented (for example) to prevent you from posting 100 new threads back to back?

Agreed, and that's among the steps we do want to pursue with devs.

Good idea. I don't write code for a living, but this RegEx will find any numerical string with at least 10 digits, including 0 to 2 non-alphanumeric characters between each digit:

([0-9]([^a-zA-Z0-9]{0,2})){10,}?

I saw some find/replace testing recently; presumably, the forum backend can search for regular expressions...

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but has something changed on the back end of the forum?  Things seem to be getting progressively slower for the last week or so. Things are less snappy is the best way to describe it.  Like a DNS resolution issue or something.  This is occurring from both my home and work networks and on all devices.

Is it the new anti-spam measures thing that was implemented?  If this is it then don't change a thing if it means the spammers are kept away.

Would a kind-hearted mod do me the favor of editing the title of my thread "Most common cause for dreaded VW ECP light?" and change ECP to EPC?  I don't want to look like a VW noob, even though I are one. laugh

When you get an email notice that a followed topic has a new post, the email always takes you to page one of the topic.

Is there a way to have the email link take you to the post that generated the notice?

It appears as if the Edit button in grayed out in all  (some)  the threads now.   I was actually just able to edit this post, but any other post I made cannot be updated.

Hopefully this is a bug and not a feature change.  Being able to immediately edit posts is VERY useful (which might still be in effect?).

Being able to edit old posts is also very useful in many cases.  E.g. I continually update first post in the very long time AC thread to show the current season (much easier to find once the season gets going).

Also, being able to self remove accidental or inappropriate post is also very useful, and likely saves a lot of work for moderators.

This is going to screw up the ability to keep the first post in the assetto corsa thread up to date as we can no longer edit it or even open it to cut and paste to make a new thread.

This is going to be a problem. . ..
