Is there a good place online to find what current scrap metal prices are? I looked and didn't find anything.

Or, does anybody know the current price of scrap metal for junk cars?

I'm looking for a starting point for a junk car I don't need.

The ONLY way I've been able to get an accurate number is to call the recycling center the DAY I'm going to bring it in. Don't count on what you heard last week being valid today. Scrap metal has to be one of the more "volatile" markets. Lobster might be more consistent ;)

For example, I took some aluminum cans back Saturday.... .27 cents per pound. During the summer, I used to take them back and use the money for gas for the lawn mower. Then it was .67-.73 cents per pound.

As was mentioned call ahead the day that you decide to take whatever scrap there.

Prices for all scrap metals are definitely down now.

Round here (rural small southern town) it was about $200 for a long time, but it's probably more like $100 now.

Big cars are worth more than small ones. Complete cars are worth more than shells. Shells of compacts have no value.
