Streetwise, it plays out the same way every time: tinpot dictator starts rattling his saber, his citizens start dying, the UN dithers and looks down its pants while casting sidewise glances at The Great Satan waiting for us to do something, the mass hysteria factory starts agitating for us to do something, we get involved, things turn ugly because there's no such thing as clean war, then the mass hysteria factory starts telling the planet how evil we are, demanding we quit being such nasty imperialists and there ya go. Don't take my word for it, go look up the history of the various conflicts we have gotten into recently.

IMHO, we should quit jumping into the middle of that kind of military intervention crap unless there is a WRITTEN CONSENSUS that the UN and the various Euopean countries are willing to MATCH our numbers in personnel and equipment until such time as the emergency is over. I say we button up Afghanistan and Iraq, bring the troops home, then put the rest of the world on notice that they have to step in to help fix things before we send our troops etc back out. If they want to stop the next Saddam or Kim Jong Il from building nukes they damn well better be prepared to take their lumps right along with us.

I don't have a problem with sending humanitarian aid to Japan or places like that. It just torques me when I see MSNBC play the same story over and over showing that in 6 days the US had ponied up a mere $49 million in aid to Japan (I have to wonder where they get their numbers) and then compares it to the $607 million allegedly raised in one week after 9/11. Nowhere in that story did they mention how much the EU or Russia has raised.

Then there was the clown who, 48 hours after the Indian Ocean tsunami, asked 'Where is the US? Why aren't they here yet?'. Chrissakes, dude. It takes TIME to mobilize! That clip got played again and again too.

Locating and taking out Khaddafi-duck should be the highest priority. Get him (and his lunatic son) and his military (with many mercenary components) won't have much incentive to resist. Of course, there is still the problem of a coalition exercising control over the population until a new government is formed. This is where the problems really lay and the question is who will lead in that process.

As far as those still BDS-afflicted, it's time to grow-up so you can grow a pair and admit that Bush was hardly alone in the run-up to attacking Iraq. These people come to mind: http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/wmdquotes.asp

Given our easy success in locating and taking out bin Laden, I am confident that we'll be hearing news of his demise shortly!

And are we predictable or what?

How to provoke an attack from America:

Scenario A: If Republican president in office--then threaten oil supply.

Scenario B: If hand-wringing liberal in office--threaten innocent civilians.

I never have understood why when the problem is one man it's necessary to send in hundreds of bombs to do the job of one bullet. Just shoot the bastard. No reason to kill thousands of people or spend millions of dollars moving ships and people. One guy, one gun, one bullet. Done. When the next guy isn't better, one guy, one gun, one bullet. Eventually the guy left standing will be smart enough to get along with the rest of the world.

Only a half mil a pop on those cruise missiles? That's cheap then. So we only blew 50 million dollars. As long as it's only pocket change. I guess we're getting a better deal on Chinese CD players than we used to get. Ya'll know that the CD player was developed for the cruise missile, right? The CD's held the terrain maps to the target. I wonder if they still do it that way or if they just stick a SD card in it.

Gosh, let's "fix" the rest of Africa too, then while we're at it. Show me one country in Africa better off than Libya was. Just one. Djibouti? Maybe, but I think it's still French Foreign Legion controlled, or was when I was there.

We have the Party of War in the White House and the Senate. The Pres down in Rio checking out the topless beaches and checking up on the millions we gave the Brazilians to they can develop their off shore oil industry (as we can't develop or even allow private enterprise to develop ours because it would reduce our dependency on foreign oil, thus allowing us to become independent, I mean, it would raise CO2 emissions. Yeah, that's it.)

Anyway, The O finally got his own war. I hope the commie leftist death worshipers are happy.

Selective application of long-established precept: the CIC is soley responsible for the deaths of every solder in any combat zone. If that's way you want to see it, go ahead and revel in your loath. BTW, Bush43's "lies" make him a pre-pubescent punk compared to LBJ.

And if Presidents are solely responsible for Congressional actions during their office, FDR and LBJ are the only criminals accountable for the country's fiscal crisis.

I hope and pray you have no friends currently stationed in the Med, Iraq or Afghanistan.

I guess what troubles me is the apparent "randomness" of it all. Intervene in Libya, largely ignore Darfur. Attack Iraq, ignore Iran. Get involved in Somalia when they aren't directly threatening us, stand on the sidelines as they pirate anything that doesn't have a Harpoon launcher on the foredeck and openly harbor terrorists. Even the timing of our action/inaction appears to have no rhyme or reason to it. We stand aside for a week and a half while the good Colonel pummels the opposition with heavy weapons, allowing him to shift the initial momentum against him in his favor. Now that he's got them on the ropes, we decide to jump in a break some of his favorite toys, thereby sentencing the opposition to a more brutal crackdown than they may have already faced.

Where's the guiding principle here? That's what I'm wondering.

but you can ignore the fact that Obama is sending many more of them to Afghanistan where they are getting killed at a rate that is 6 times greater than under Bush? How's that work?

Did I say I like Obama's decisions? I don't... and they should be out of there.. I didn't vote for him to do this...

(edit: but i understand the power vacuum argument as to why we can't pull out so quick.... Arrrrghh... Well atleast Obama makes me mostly proud to be an american.
