I havent been out in the woods for a few years. Other than, Tent, sleeping bag, food and clothes, what are some little things that you guys take out to keep entertained and/or more comfortable?
Football and cards are already in the bag.

Leatherman tool, or big knife, and a flashlight.
Candle and an empty coffee can. If it gets cold, light the candle, put into bottom of opened coffee can. The flame will heat up the can radiating heat. This will help warm a closed tent even on a cold night.
Nice.
So far, Im adding bugspray, a coffee can (good tip btw) and some chairs. (The leatherman lives in my truck..so good to go there)
Are you going car camping, or packing stuff into a site? Do you have to make allowances for anyone who's not used to camping?
There might be a small hike to the site, depending on how soon our friends got the reservation into the park. I dont think anyone in the group is an experienced camper...and there will be kids.
Guns!
Edit: Okay maybe not guns if you're around lots of people. Save the shooting for an establish range or nations forests.
Unless I am out in the wilderness for over a week and need to pack light..........I bring so much crap camping. We usually get sites with electric so....... extension cord, power strip, lights, 10x10 pop up canopy in case of rain, folding table for more table space, propane grill, radio.
I used to camp a lot more, so I already have tupperware bins with electric items, misc. cooking and food items like utensils, plates, steak knives, lighter, etc already put together, makes packing up easy and its ready to store for a few months.
Bring a roll of paper towels they are usually good to have. Also a roll of toilet paper. If you dont, whatever restroom is available will probably run out of it.
No electric here, but there is a small chance of rain, so Ill see if anyone has a canopy. And holy crap, if I forgot TP then the trip would be over before it started.
Mtn, You know this man! (but the park says its prohibited, so I have to be sneaky)
propane lantern if you have one available, can light up the whole campsite at night. I think we have a cheap ozark trail lantern from walmart that we got last year. served us well so far. I ALWAYS forget flashlights. always. so the lantern is nice when theres no electric.
ah yes, a couple trash bags.
its good this discussion came up, Im going camping next weekend too, I am remembering things I need to bring.
We used to go camping a lot, not so much now. A lot of good advise above here. Make sure you know how to set up your tent before you go. Major embarrassment can ensue otherwise. Also, the extra canopy is great. Keeps the kids from making a big mess inside the tent. A flashlight is important, because you will probably get some 4 legged midnight visitors and you show them to the kids. BIG DEAL!! Make sure all your food is securely stored in strong coolers!! I have watched raccoons destroy a van going after the meat in a family's cooler. Door was open, 4 coons helped themselves to the steaks, left the burgers and dogs behind. We have coons at every campground in Florida, where you are, maybe bears. Food security can be a real issue.
cwh -- Bears might be an issue this time. There have been almost daily news reports of bears venturing out and being less afraid of people. I might take some pallets, but Im willing to bet one of the women-folk (not mine) will end up spending $25 on some rotten firewood.
