Yeah, kids CANNOT take pain anymore. I watch my kid biff and pinball off stuff all the time. I wait til I hear the cry, or lack thereof before I make any move. Half the time it's for attention. I'm sure it hurt- but you aren't bleeding. I'm trying to get him to realize that life goes on.

Sure they can. Usually when mine pile into something harder than they are, I laugh at them. I am wholly unconcerned about their pain. Get over it and move on.
I just bought my 10 and 13 year old boys Airsoft guns and safety glasses, and sent them outside to shoot each other. The 13 yo can cock them faster but the 10 yo is a better shot and aims for the nuts every time. It didn't take him long to get over getting mad and get even instead. I can hear the hollering in my shop. Yep, I'm kind of mean.
Best part, the Wii and the computer have been off for days. Give them a couple of years and I'll happily buy them paint ball guns. Hopefully it won't cost me a trip to the ER for a busted ear or lost eye, but I'm not extremely worried about it either way. When I was a kid we used BB guns and bottle rockets, while we were tearing around the neighborhood on mopeds, with no helmets. Airsoft guns are tame by comparison. Pain is a valuable teacher, they need to experience it.

That was also back during a time when "Mom" was a title and not just a name. Any Mom in our neighborhood had full authority to whip our butts for being stupid. Heck, we'd call other kids moms "Mom" instead of "Mrs. Brandenburg"or "Mrs. Beck". She was just as apt to make you a sandwich for lunch, bandage up a scrape, or let you come in to use the bathroom as she was able to discipline you and then call your own mother so you could get whipped again.
Yes, those are my memories too. Getting in trouble with the teacher meant hell to pay at home, instead of parents running to the school, lawyers in tow, to demand an explanation from the teacher. I can't believe the way some of my friends kids talk to people, holy hell, maybe I'm old-fashioned but have manners and respect gone out the window?

Your kids are rare- as I suspect most of the kids on here are. STRANGELY- I was having a discussion about this with a parent group. I was hesitant- but this is probably gonna be fun. They all gave me VERY strange looks when I told them that I had given my two year old the Sawzall. Granted- I had removed the battery and the blade, so he wasn't going to ruin anything- but he still had it.

My kids loved those until they finally wore out the cheap plastic ones.
One bit of advice - buy the huge tub of biodegradable ammo and don't let the neighbor kids come over and shoot the cheap plastic ones either. I had tens of thousands of those little yellow plastic ones covering my whole yard and the leaf sucker wouldn't pick them up.
It took a lot of raking and shopvac time to learn that lesson.

1) It wasn't someone disagreeing with a liberal, it was blaming it on liberals
2) I didn't call anyone ignorant, I said linking being liberal and banning tag is ignorant. All my liberal friends and my family's friends would agree that banning tag, soccerballs, etc is stupid, it is not a liberal vs conservative issue. It is lawyers and parents.

My four year old son can already identify an angle grinder on sight and will flat out tell you "that is the most dangerous tool in the garage!". That's my boy!

On the other hand, my 10 year old got a note home and a parent conference (which was great) because he was ruler sword fighting. They're 10! What the hell do you think they'll do with rulers? Draw lines with them? I yelled at him because he got in trouble for breaking rules, but let him knows that getting punished for playing was idiotic. They took away all recess this year too. Kids were getting hurt. So now they have to sit still for 8 hours and not fidget. It's not going so well.

like any tool it can be used correctly or incorrectly. I am super skeptical of others impressions of corporal punishment because its so subjective to their own experiences.
In your case, asking someone if they want to receive corporal disciplin is about the stupidest thing I've heard, and it sucks all the meaning out of it to nothing more than a planned battery, to me. i would consider that a very very poor implementation....
My niece, whom I am the father figure to (her real father lives 5 miles away and cannot be bothered to do more than send support) recently was suspended from school for psychological reasons.
The reason: she used the word suicide in a poem.
She was deemed "a threat" and I had to go over there, talk to the school psychologist, and take her home. She needed to be evaluated by a certified outside psychologist before she would be allowed back.
I admit, my niece did not have a good life before my mom took custody, and her poem reflected that. But if they had actually bothered to read what she wrote, they would have seen it was actually a positive poem.
Instead, they got hung up on the word "suicide"
