TIL that my wife is highly unlikely to get the upgraded wheels if she ends up with a Mazda3 turbo for her next car.

Today i learned just how much different my wifes 06 mazda5 feels on takeoff 16 inch Mazda3 wheels vs the factory 17s. Holy crap the car is sooooo much better.

Back when I bought my 2004 WRX, the BBS wheels were a $3500 option, so even though it's a ridiculous amount of money, they really haven't gone up that much over the past 16 years.
TIL....
That the warnings about leaving your engine running when refueling your car are likely horsepucky... :P
Although I never really thought about it, I sorta assumed that Bon Scott mighta been in a band before AC/DC. But TIL that not only is that the case, but there's video. I.. I don't know if this is what you wanna learn today, buuuuut
TIL: How to collect temperature and humidity data, display it on an LCD screen, and light an LED if the values move out of a set range with Arduino.
I know I'm late to the party with this, but it's pretty neat. My first project is to build a thermostat for the heater in my daughter's frog's terrarium. Then I'm going to build a misting system and use the same Arduino to control that as well. Phase three is to have it send us a text message if the temperature or humidity gets out of range. Phase four is to monitor the level of the water tank for the misting system. I realize all of that could be bought off the shelf, but this is way more fun.

Wow, my daughter thought I was amazing for using a piece of glass to hold up her aquarium light.
Well done, Sir.
TIL that in Oldsmobile's dying days they created a special, fast minivan called the Silhouette OSV. Complete with body kit, big chrome wheels, Brembo brakes all-round, more power, and six (6!) bolstered Recaro bucket seats.

I may be pinging you for insights on Arduino programming down the line... depending on how far-out I end up going, I may be trying to use an Arduino to run everything in the DMC when I rebuild it.
TIL that the Suzuki H series V6 engine was co-developed with Toyota and Mazda. Since I was pretty involved with Suzuki's for 20 years, I should know something about these engines, and I don't.
But I see that the lifters are the same as the G series, so I'll have good cam profiles from mild to wild. Hmmm.
In reply to ShawneeCreek (Forum Supporter) :
I don't know if the Silhouette OSV had a shot at production, but the Alero OSV and Intrigue OSV were confirmed to be going into production and then Oldsmobile got euthanized. The Alero OSV had a supercharged EcoTec and the Intrigue OSV had a supercharged 3.5L "Shortstar"

It's a pretty deep rabbit hole to fall down, I'm not gonna lie! I spent some time this morning in SketchUp working on an enclosure to 3D print for this system....
TIL: Tile is heavy. My hernia and I are planning on putting down about 500sqft of tile at the house this weekend and between the two types of tile that I'm using, it's over 1,800 pounds. And I need grout and thin-set on top of that. Good thing the Excursion is a 3/4 ton truck I guess!

Yeah, I don't doubt it. But the repair/rebuild on the DMC is itself going to be a massive rabbit hole. It looks like there's already an engine management system/board (speeduino) that I might be able to build off of.
TIL that it is actually against the law to mispronounce Joliet, Illinois while you are in Joliet. Remember folks, it's Joe-Lee-Et, not Jolly-Et. There's also a $1000 fine for beating rats with a baseball bat in Galesburg. Thanks, Illinois
TIL, '70s Pop edition:
1) Gerry Rafferty (of Baker Street fame) was originally in Stealer's Wheel (of Stuck In The Middle With You fame).
2) Vicki Lawrence (of The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia fame) is the very same person as comedy actress Vicki Lawrence (of Carol Burnett Show fame).

I'm 60, and I knew both of these things. As a little addition, if you change the song title to "Stuck in the Middle of You" it's a different story.

I'm 28. I knew the first one, not the second one.

Is "Jolly-et" even possible to be phonetically correct? Maybe its because I've lived within 2 hours of it my entire life, and were one of the biggest rivalries in football for my brother, but I could never figure out the "Jolly-et" pronunciation.

I've learned the pronunciation and spelling don't necessarily have to line up for names. Example, I live near Vienna, NY. Except its pronounced V-Eye-Anna. If you pronounce it like Vienna, Austria, you get weird looks and everyone knows you aren't from around here. Tennessee was particularly bad about pronunciation. Lebanon was Leb-Nin and Shelbyville was almost said like Shovel.

There is a town in central Ohio named Bellfontaine that is pronounced Bell-Fountain. I said the proper pronunciation and no one could figure out what I was talking about. Never go with the spelling, just listen to what other people call it so we can perpetuate the improper pronunciation.
Joliet is just hard O, or soft O. Easy.
Explain Worshington to me. Or don't because i'm sure you feel justified using letters that are not in the word...

Or Kare-oh, Missouri, which is spelled just like Kiy-row, Egypt.
Or, for that matter, Mizz-oorah, which is spelled just like, you know, Missouri.
