I regularly turn on my space heater In the California summers because our office AC apparently needs to keep meat from spoiling.
Then I go outside and immediately combust.

Day 2 of our power outage. Happened yesterday around noon. Tornado warning. We have about half dozen or more trees or substantial branches down. The generator works ok and the transfer switch is only hooked up for the furnace, fridge, the fireplace blower and couple outlets and lights. Luckily its not supposed to be super humid because the condensing unit is not on the switch. The biggest number of people without power was 72k. Its down to 55k, but they are estimating multiple more days. At least we still have water.
TIL that Buzz Aldrin wears 3 Omegas seemingly all the time, 2 of them in the same bracelet on his right wrist. Pretty sure you have to literally be an astronaut to pull that off. We'll ignore the money part of it.
In reply to Wally :
I would hope at least one of those 3 is a freebie if he's got a deal with them. Which would make sense because to this day from what I can tell 90% of their advertising is "GUYS! LOOK, OUR E36 M3 WENT TO SPACE!" Which is why we have 11,000 different variants of the Speedmaster.
TIL that Epic Rap Battles of History is a thing that exists.
This is, officially, the only time I approve of autotune.
TIL that I need to wipe my evening's schedule clean.
When Bond vs. Powers turns into Connery Bond vs. whoever-the-hell-that-is Bond (??? Who cares, all his movies sucked)
It's 8pm, I need to be at work in 11 hours, still need to sleep and maybe eat something
Today I learned I really do not like MB cars. I have not been in one since my Sisters E class years ago. I hated the seats in that car with a passion. Old ACVW seats were more comfortable than the plywood the E class seats were made of. Today I dropped some friends off at the airport. I had to borrow C class as my Disco is still in the shop. While I liked it's power and ability to cruise high above the speed limit, I disliked the huge amount of buttons spread across the console and I disliked the seats. While not as bad as that old E class, by the time I got out of the car, my behind was hurting.

I have to figure that this is where a window unit comes in, as small as you can buy.
My parents were in the same outage from 9:30PM or so on Friday, finally had power restored around 8PM Sunday. My thought after it (we were there for most of it) was that I need to figure out a way to fab up an exhaust for the generator because those things are really loud.

I always pictured 80s Merc seats as a piece of plywood mounted to a single coil spring, covered with cheap vinyl. I've been told I'm wrong.

There was a reason my sister sat on a cushion when driving her down car. The seats really did feel like a lightly padded piece of plywood. The ones in the C Class I borrowed were a lot better, but still shy of the seating in my disco. Hell, I drove to Annapolis in my Abarth and by butt hurt less by the time I got out.

I think in the 70s and 80s, MB seat engineers heard about "lumbar support" and mistranslated it as "lumber".
Those sweet old 450SELs literally feel like you're sitting on a leather covered board, supported by weak springs.
TIL new Corollas have the same basic chassis as '98 Corollas.
And they have a light in the tach to indicate what I assume is "using the gutter to drift" mode.
In reply to Knurled. :
That's the lane guidance display. If it thinks you're drifting too far one way or another it will change color and the steering will stiffen up and try to prevent the car from going over the line.
TIL that Tesla cars with Ludacris mode can do 0-60 under 3.0 seconds.
Like a used Model S under $60k.
In reply to eastsideTim :
If they did, there are only very minimal changes compared to the chassis that came with the 1ZZ engine, at least on a visual inspection.

Today I drove by a Tesla service center who's parking lot was packed full of Tesla's. They're closed Saturday. Made me think of the rumors of parts availability being nonexistent.
TIL that in Spaceballs, when they're in the desert by the campfire, they're burning Her Royal Majesty's Matched Luggage. 32 years and I don't know how many times I've watched that movie and I just now noticed it.
