Planet Vulcan?

TL;DR, a companion book written in 02 named a nearby star system as the Vulcan System. This is considered cannon, launched along ST-ENT. Scientists recently discovered an exoplanet orbiting that star.

Back in reality, the system is 16 LY away. The star is similar to our sun, except a bit cooler. The planet is a “Super Earth” at approximately 8 earth masses and closer to its host star with a year of 42 earth days.  It’s closer proximity to its star places it likely outside the “habitable zone”, although the lower temperature of the star may be enough to counter that. The next step is to see if the orbit has the planet crossing between it’s star and earth so we can try to spectral analyze it to determine the planet’s atmosphere.

Hopefully, JJ Abrams stays away from this one!

It's already a "super earth" so it fulfills his obligation to "supersize all the things!"
