I've been thinking about this question for a bit. There have been a number of occasions where manufacturers skip a year. I'm not talking about discontinued and then revived names ( Thunderbird, Roadmaster) but cases where the company just decided to sit out a year of otherwise continual production.

There's the 1998 Miata, 1983 Corvette, 2013 i-MiEV, 1996 Wrangler, and what else?

Lotus skipped a year of sales in the US recently, I think it was 2013?

Edit: It was 2014, and there were no 2015 Evoras for the US.

Certain models, like Golf/Jetta/Cab. We still got the Corrado and Passat for better or worse.

In reply to Paul_VR6:

well they didn't make cooling systems at least that year OBDI VR6 cooling systems are fun (as I'm sure you're well aware of)

Just because I was there a couple months ago. The 1983 Corvette.

There was no 1992 Mazda RX-7 in North America. All left over '91 FC's were sold in '92. The FD was then introduced as a 1993 model year.

2002 Tiburon. Hyundai made the change over late in 2001 and released the 2003 Tib in early 2002.

How about motorcycles? There was no Harley Davidson Road Glide in 2014. It was skipped over, for redesign, with the new Rushmore Touring bike models.

Yeah but it was only the model year designation, they didn't really skip a year. New 2010s were still being delivered when the 2012s were hitting the lot. Our dealer had both bodies at the same time, I think April of 2011?

In Feb of 2011, we bought my wife's 2010 Mazda5 and the 2012s were on the lot. I think we paid $17,500 on a $21,000 sticker.

I think you have to look at what years did manufacturers actually skip. Not what years did they make something and then we in the US did not get.

So the 1996 Wrangler would be a prime example as there were none, because Jeep took out the YJ in 95 and released the TJ in 97.

But as far as Lotus in 2013-2015 did they not make any? Or did they not ship any to the US?

No 2007 Scion xB. The 06 (like mine) was the last boxy version, the 08 was the first...weird version.

Lotus was still producing cars in that time, but they didn't meet US safety requirements so none were sold there.

The Honda Pacific Coast was sold from 1989 - 1990, then went on a three year hiatus, then was offered from 1994 - 1998.

They're cool, but they look small on the car.

That's an interesting artifact of a car, though.

Toyota MR2 skipped 1990, in the US. Although 1991 models came out way early in 1990.

If motorcycles are included, Suzuki did not officially sell any 2010 model year bikes in North America due to financial difficulties.
