I used to do about 60 per year...
Find an old guy who's done it before and pay him. I'm not even going to start into the instructions.

I will. I can change the heater blower in a Volvo 240 in 3 easy steps:
1] Remove everything from the car that is NOT the blower.
2] Replace the blower.
3] Re-assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly.
That's really close to the truth. My first one took the better part of a weekend. By my fifth, I could do it in 3 hours.

55 minutes is a dang good time! 3.5 on the flat rate seems low - I thought it was more like 6.0.
There was a legendary dealer tech in Grand Rapids, MI, name of Tim Walma (or Wallma?). I think he later became a tech trainer for VCNA. It was said he could change a blower in 45 minutes. If the stars (and the work orders) aligned just right, he could do 3 before lunch break, and call it a day!
Update:
I just Googled Tim Walma. He's still at Betten Imports in Grand Rapids, some 35 years after I knew of him!
