I've been selected for the Ironman Championship in Kona the week prior. I'll be competing in the physically limited catagory, doing the full swim (the easiest portion for me), full bike and the challenge for me will come, I'm going to see if I can get to the point that I can complete at least half of the marathon on foot, if I can at the 13.1 mile mark I'll switch over to a handbike, but more than likely I'll be doing the full 26.2 on the handbike. Shout out to Ms. Davis at NBAC and the occupational therapy staff at University of Maryland for making this happen.
Dude! Kicking ass in a big way! Nice

Awesome. That's a long way from some of the darker days. Congrats
In reply to oldtin:
the call came as quite a surprise as I was tracking my times in the pool in preparation for a distance swim across the Chesapeake Bay this summer. I had no clue that they were logging my handbike times and splits on the bike to be submitted. I'm registered for 3 tris late this spring, but not a single one is a qualifier, so it was a bit of a shock as it wasn't on my radar. I was asked about it casually if it'd be something I'd be interested in and responded that it'd be something to work towards thinking 2018. Now my goal for 2018 will be no handbike, which will be slow, and ugly and I'll likely get swept, but having completed marathons before it was something in the back of my mind. This year will be about completing it within the allowances allotted to me based on the joint reconstruction and replacement and neuro fallout. Next year I'm going for broke, hopefully just figuratively.

OK, that's valid. Good effort!
Amazing, I know a lot of people who've never had any meaningful health problems who couldn't do that...including me
This is awesome! Kick ass!
You are officially The E36 M3.

That is incredible. I've ridden 100 miles on a bike several times, and there's no way I could run even a half marathon afterwards. A triathlon is out of the question because the swim would definitely kill me.
Coming home today and seeing this is just fantastic!!'!!!! Really made my day.

Yes, Cap'n. This is fantastic news! We are pulling for you. Actually, this is what this entire forum is all about. (Ahem, but not ending a sentence with a preposition, that is). We are all pulling for you, and regardless of the "low level fallout," we are behind you 100%.
We will accept this excuse.
Way to go, man.
That's berkeleying awesome.
