Two things: the future looks more like 2001 than Star Wars. And the weather is looking better.

I'm really hoping the launch command is "Take off, eh".

Based on the outfits, I'm hoping for "Fire at will, commander." Would also accept "It is unavoidable--it is your destiny!"

Well, it's also their names. And "Doug and Bob" sounds weird.

Still sounds weird even in the "right" order. I seem to remember NASA astronauts always being referred to by their full names: John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Judith Reznick. Do NOT recall Peter Jennings ever going, "Who's just climbed into the launch vehicle? Is that Judy??"

If it makes you feel any better, there are two things that haven't changed. People in mission control are still wearing ties, and mission control is a bit of a pigsty :)

They're not stock Model Xs, they have what basically amounts to life support machinery inside. And apparently those big doors make life easier. I think the armored truck is there in case something goes boom.

And you have to admit the Teslas are a little more stylish than the alternatives. The Model X fits the aesthetic better.

So less than 45 min to go, and it looks like they are going to try to launch.  All things are go, and they are going to load fuel.

It's sounding positive.

What do you think the Falcon sounds like from the inside as it fuels?

Modern life is weird and cool.

I'm sitting in a video meeting, watching the live feed of the launch on my iPad (sound down, but captions on) and chatting with my mom on messenger about it, while also having chats about other work stuff.

Yes, I'm one of those people on a conference/video call that says, "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?  I missed it."  laugh

In reply to Keith Tanner :

I picture hearing a lot of whirring sounds for turbine pumps.  And then a lot of creaking and goaning of things cooling down from the liquid O2.

I was JUST thinking the exact same thing.  Not having to rely only on 3 channels for info is pretty nice.

BTW, a few years ago, on this board I asked if we will ever have another Apollo moment, where a huge amount of people are mesmorised in a specific goal, and the enthusiasm of the general public was glowing.  I meant the question for anything, most took it for space travel.

Seems that space travel still holds the same allure as it did 50 years ago, now.
