Anyway, I was thinking of mixing some fiberglass resin and watering it down with acetone. Then thought, I should actually do this 20% right and buy the correct stuff. 100% would have been to r and r it the soft wood.

Run to the box hw store, 14 bucks, scoot home. Interesting drive, full moon tonight?  Anyway get home safe, crack the can, and it smells just like the acetone leftovers when cleaning up after a glass session, and about the same consistency and tackieness.

Is it just acetone thinned glass resin?

Are you using a clear epoxy penetrating sealer?  I used it on a boat stringer and was amazed how it worked.  I drilled into the stringer and it was soft and wet.   A year later I drilled in to check and it was dry and harder than the other stringer I replace with Douglas fir.

There will certainly be a solvent in most of those to evaporate off and help curing and finish.  It would not a stretch for it to be acetone.  I would expect it is a smallish component of a mixture though.

Its acetone for sure, its the rest I am curious about. Feel I could have saved an hour if I went with my first instinct.
