For anyone looking to record their autocross or track or whatever adventures on the cheap. These things are low tech but functional, add a camera mount and maybe an external mic and you're ready to go. The catch on the older cameras is it's getting impossible to find reliable batteries. The solution to that is to just leave it plugged in all the time, which is pretty easy when the camera is mounted to a vehicle.

This stuff doesn't have much value but I feel bad just tossing it, make me an offer worth my time to package and ship it and it's yours.

-Hero 2: totally functional, case has been modified for power cable and external mic use (cases are interchangeable)

-Hero: backup, no external mic capability. Works but occasionally glitches and doesn't record sound correctly. Unmodified case

-3 batteries of various quality

-2 open back case doors

-spare case lenses, seals, and tiny screwdriver

-10' USB charging cable

-32GB SD card

Does $30.00 plus shipping work for you?

BTW I've had good luck with all the aftermarket Gen1/2 batteries I've tried so far, brands include Wasabi Power, B&M and DuraPro.

Thanks.  I've had good luck with the Wasabi Power batteries as well.  The Hero2 cameras work with the obsolete Traqmate data acquisition systems that I run in my race cars so I try and grab them and Traqmate parts whenever I see them at good prices.

In reply to APEowner :

I went w/ Wasabi batteries for my 2 Hero2 cameras, they've been chugging along for years.  I went all out years ago & got two WiFi backpacks and a wrist remote, it was a great setup.  But the wrist remote became a pain to charge, the plug didn't make contact and I had to keep flexing it up and down to find the sweet spot.

These days I just put one of the cameras on my helmet and start/stop at the start line.

Not to turn this into a self help group for us frugal users of ancient camera systems but........

I installed an old TraqMate system into my vintage Formula Ford.  1 (because cheap) and 2 (well see 1).  That system will auto start / stop a GoPro 2 so I have been messing with a couple of those.  Video is well, not exactly amazing.  What are y'all using for video settings on your old GoPros?

Just saw this was back. I tried a wasabi battery and it seemed to last at best as long as a decade old oem battery, and confused the battery meter. I had another brand that seemed to work decently but they appear to have stopped making them. The irony of the situation is the new camera I upgraded to still basically needs to be plugged in all the time.

I just ran normal settings, 1080p I think. If you mount the camera inside the car there's a "spot" setting that sets exposure only by the center of the image, not the entire shot. That stops it from picking up on the relative darkness of the interior and washing out the part of the image you actually care about.
