Hey guys,

My son just bought a brand new 2024 Subaru WRX TR and will be using it for daily plus autocross plus Track days at AMP in North Georgia. I want to spec out some better pads  and alignment specs for it ahead of  the next PCA event at AMP.

What pads do you guys recommend ? Supposedly subaru did a good job at tailoring the OEM pads for release ...but they tend to fade fairly quickly....

Speaking further on the brakes...are the OEM lines S/S type or do they need to get changed out? What brands ?

What about alignment specs ?  I realize it needs as much neg camber as it can get on the front, but what works well on a pretty twisty track like AMP?  Does it need more on the rear? What about toe settings front and rear? Would 1/16" total toe out  Front and 0 toe in the rear work well?

Appreciate the advice from newer Subie owners that do triple duty..lol

PS the tires will get swapped to RE-71RS soon ...What size fits w/o rubbing on the 19" rims?

Welcome to the board, and if it’s okay with you, I’d like to move this post to the main GRM forum. I think you’ll get more eyeballs there.

There's really no such thing as a pad that does all of those things well. I'd probably run the stock pads until you find their limit and then assess your needs. The stock pads will be fine for street driving and autocross. Then you need to figure out how aggressive you need for track, and whether you want to compromise on track capability, street manners, or having to swap pads between events. Stock brake hoses are fine, but you'll want better fluid once you're upgrading the pads.

I don't have any wrx experience but in general I'd want to keep some amount of rear toe in for high speed stability for street and track driving.

I'll second not wanting braided hoses.  They don't increase braking performance but they do increase a lot of liability because they are far less fault/abrasion tolerant than the stock hoses.  They are also almost always not engineered to fit very well, which increases the likelihood of finding out how poorly they are tolerant of abrasion.

I've seen three people have to stop competition and limp home with Vise-Grips pinching a hose shut because their braided hoses wore through/kinked and then blew out.  One failed while he was on the street on the way there, so he limped in long enough to engineer a fix good enough to limp back home.  Not something I'd feel comfortable with at a track day.

Sure thanks David  go ahead and move it.!...

OT but I've been on here before and have subscribed to GRM for about 20 years. Recently showed up at the 2025 $2000 challenge to view autocross. That NC Miata was very fast !!!

I currently own a 2002 NB2 SE Miata with 23K miles that I picked up in Winter Garden in Oct 2024. Very minty. Added Flying Miata Konis, Springs and anti-roll bars. Huge improvement and fun :-)

I met Tim and his wife back in 2005 in South Alabama at a SCCA Solo2 regional. Went to Nationals in 2005 for the experience, not that i had a competitive car or great skills ...lol

Noted...Dot 4 or Dot 5? SRF?

I think most performance brake fluids are still officially rated DOT4. SRF is generally the "go-to" but there's a bunch of reasonable choices.

+1, I've tried braided hoses once and know better now.

For pads, EBC Yellowstuffs or G-Loc R8s might work decently for that kind of use. For fluids, anything DOT4 or DOT5.1 with temperature ratings on the higher end of the scale will work. Bosch ESI6 is good and cheap.
