Is there a way to open a 50 yr old truck lid lock without a key?? Is it a simple thing or just call the local lock smith??

In reply to MyMiatas :

A decent locksmith should be able to pop that open in a few minutes realistically.

Is this supposed to read "Trunk"?  If so, sometimes you can unbolt the latch assembly by reaching through from the back seat area using long extensions. Depends on vehicle.

Agreed, plus they can likely make you a key in a couple more minutes.

Remove the rear seat backrest and then get the longest straight tip screwdriver you have.  Reach through the opening and turn the lock.

Yes it ment to say trunk not truck.

This one is sealed like Fort Knox, only one way in.

In reply to MyMiatas :

If it's a Miata trunk lock like I assume, my local lock smith got into mine in under 5 min.

Thanks for the answers.  I was thinking of would get an answer that it is easy peasy, just do this...... but 50 year old locks are still for professionals.  :0)

I have a lock picking kit you're welcome to try if you'd like.   I haven't had much luck with it but you might!

It's easy if you are willing to damage/destroy/mutilate/incinerate the lock, the trunk lid, the contents of the trunk, and/or other nearby parts of the car.
Otherwise go with one of those classic witticisms like "cheap, quick, or easy: pick 2"
Lishi makes lock-specific picking/ decoding tools which look like cheating, but most of those are for 90's and newer vehicles.  And $50+ each.
If you can remove the lock from a door or the glovebox, in theory you can take that to a locksmith and have a key made.

Taking a separate lock to the a locksmith came to mind. That seems an easier way to do it than having them drive here
