After years of research and internal debate, I finally pulled the trigger on a simulator. I went with a pretty high end setup, because my goal is driver training, as opposed to sim racing, at least near term, so I wanted a set-up that provides as much realism as possible, lacking the presence of g forces, of course. So, I went with a Fanatec Podium DD1 direct drive wheel base, Fanatec Clubsport pedals, triple monitors, and a Buttkicker transducer. I am the most ultra hyper mega newbie on the planet with this stuff (I've never so much as even played a video game in my life), so I'm plodding through the set-up, and am stuck pretty much at step 1. In the DD1 Quick Start guide, it says the first thing to do is to update the drivers (I had to Google what a driver even is, if that tells you anything about how massively ignorant I am regarding all things computer related, although I am very willing to learn). So I went to the web site directed by the Quick Start Guide, and it gives a choice of three drivers for the DD1: Fanatec driver 381, Fanatec driver 346, and Fanalab V1 53. Any idea which one I should select? I posted my question on the Fanatec forum, but no response yet. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Also, you may have noticed I'm a bit overwhelmed by this whole thing. I'm sure it will make sense as I get into it, but for those of you who have been doing the sim racing thing for awhile, can you recommend any good resources for someone like me who is just trying to figure out how to turn what is at the moment a $6000 coat rack into something that actually functions as a useful driver training tool? Thanks.
